IEM Cologne 2023 Play-In

Best of 3

  • TheMongolz (+220) vs. Furia (-325)
  • 9INE (+140) vs. Liquid (-180)
  • Apeks (-200) vs. OG (+150)
  • NiP (-325) vs. Imperial (+225)

Captain Plays

K0nfig: This might end up being one of the chalkiest plays of the day tomorrow but you might as well hop on it. 5,800$ for K0nfig is quite ridiculous in my opinion and on top of that is the lowest-priced player for NiP. They have the best odds to win and he is by far one of their better players, they did lose to Mouz today but K0nfig still showed up as he was the only player positive on his team. This is a great spot for a cheap captain play so that you can afford some of those juicer top-priced players.

CacaNito: Caca has been great to start the IEM Play-Ins and he has fit right into his new team. He is averaging a solid 1.13 K/D in the four maps played so far and I like his price at only 7,800$ (11,700$ in Captain). I love this matchup as I think this could be a close one, they were looking really good in the game against Astralis but came up short. I don't see OG as too much of a threat and believe Apeks can continue into the Playoffs with Caca continuing to perform.

Other captain plays in order of preference: KSCERATO, Jkaem, NAF, yuurih, headtrick

Value Plays

Yekindar: Yekindar looked fantastic in their win over BiG and honestly I was quite surprised. With him taking on a new role, I wasn't sure how he would do but he seems to have taken it well as so far during this tournament he has averaged a 1.28 K/D. It is a small sample size but with him being only 7,400$ and he has a good matchup that should stay close which could mean a lot more rounds to get kills. If you plan on the Liquthenoute, then Yek paired with NAF is a great direction to start in.

F1ku: This is more on the GPP side of things but F1ku has been impressive during the Play-Ins. If he gets the right maps such as Mirage or Overpass he could be in line for a good game. Apeks is a good team but by no means a team where we see a blowout. I fully expect this game to be close as I said before with CacaNito. I wouldn't be surprised to see this go to map three. F1ku is dirt cheap at only 5k and is worth a shot in some GPP lineups if you are looking for some deeper value. A pairing with Regali in OG stacks is a great way to go.

Other value plays: oSee, FASHR(GPP), Goofy, Patsi, Hen1(GPP)

Top Stacks / Team Picks

NiP: Overall this is probably your safest pick. Grayhounds made it close in some spots for Imperial and I think NiP is levels above that. Imperial is very much carried by the likes of Hen1 and Boltz and they will need the rest of their team to come up big to pull off this upset. With NiP this team is very well-balanced and doesn't usually have too many weak spots and with them having this matchup I believe we see a 2-0 here.

K0nfig will be where the majority of people start and that's the route we will probably have to take as well, especially cash games. GPP you can get a little different as a pairing of Brollan and headtrick is solid as well. I don't think you can go wrong with anyone on this lineup but with hampus still relatively "new" to the team, I would say that would be the spot to fade especially with k0nfig being cheaper.

Other Team Picks: Furia, Apeks, Liquid, 9INE(GPP)

Summary

TLDR: Furia 2-0, Liquid 2-1, Apeks 2-1, NiP 2-0

  1. Mongolz: Blitz, 910
  2. FURIA: Kscerato, Yuurih, Chelo
  3. 9INE: Hades, Goofy,
  4. Liquid: NAF, Yekindar, Patsi
  5. Apeks: Jkaem, Nawwk, Cacanito
  6. OG: regali, F1KU, FASHR
  7. NiP: headtrick, K0nfig, Brollan
  8. Imperial: HEN1
