Ryan Tannehill 2019 Outlook: South From South Beach
6 years agoAfter another unremarkable season in Miami, the Dolphins decided to cut bait with their franchise quarterback and trade him to Tennessee. With Marcus Mariota there for at least this season, Ryan Tannehill is nothing more than the backup. The Titans have a decision to make after 2019 on Mariota and they will give him every chance to prove he deserves a new contract. With this said Tannehill’s only hope for playing time is if an injury occurs, and Mariota is not the healthiest player in the league. However, at the same time, he has tended to play through injuries rather than miss time. It will be interesting to see if this changes with Tannehill as a backup.
If you are looking to draft Tannehill in the hope of getting something from him this season you have probably had too much sun. Not only is he not a draft-worthy asset for fantasy, neither is the player he is chasing in Marcus Mariota. If Tannehill were to somehow get in then there is a hardly a wealth of talent around him. We saw in Miami his propensity to target the slot receiver in Jarvis Landry, and he does at least have that player in Tennessee in Adam Humphries. However, there is just not enough sure-fire pass-catching talent to excite you even f he does get the opportunity.
The only place he may be a consideration is in dynasty leagues. We don’t know what will happen with him after this season. He could move on yet again, he could be a bridge quarterback for the Titans until a rookie is ready, or they might give him a shot to start next season. No matter what happens in dynasty this means nothing for redraft, and Neither does Ryan Tannehill.
