Derrick White 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoSan Antonio Spurs guard Derrick White bursted onto the scene last season by default as the Spurs’ depleted backcourt opened up room for the young guard to play 25.8 minutes a night. White took full advantage of this extra run and in January when he averaged 30.9 minutes a night across 15 games he averaged mid-round numbers of 15.3 points, 3.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 0.8 blocks, and 1.1 triples. It is a small sample size and he did battle with various injuries throughout the campaign, but a summer with American World Cup squad, he should be slotted in as the club’s started two-guard this season with DeMar DeRozan getting most of his minutes at the small forward spot. With saying this, his ceiling would be the numbers he posted in January, but in reality, we should expect close to those numbers if he can stay healthy. Keep an eye on the young guard as he could take another step this season with the Spurs looking to the future.
