Chase Headley Off Of The Fantasy Radar
7 years agoChase Headley returns to San Diego after a three-and-a-half-year stint in the Bronx. In 2017, the former Padres prospect produced 12 HR, 77 runs scored, 61 RBI, 9 stolen bases and a .758 OPS. Now 33 years old, Headley currently has a clear path to starting third baseman, but the risk is whether the Padres trade him before the season starts. Assuming the former, Headley is a known commodity as a career contact hitter (53.8% Med%, 22.3% LD%, 44.4% GB%). His knack for getting on base (.343 career OBP) should complement the Padres’ “All or Nothing” plate approach. Two red flags to consider are Headley’s above-average .341 BABIP in 2017 and his career .242/.330/.371 line at Petco Park. Headley’s 411 ADP and 3B40 rank means most owners won’t consider him in drafts. However, he can get hot in spurts and is a much better second half player throughout his career so teams may find him a worthwhile streaming option at points during the season.
