Buster Posey Still Has Value
7 years agoWhile he’s no longer the surefire top fantasy catcher, Buster Posey is still one of the safest players you can take at the position. He is incredibly consistent, as a virtual lock to hit at least .290 and post an OBP above .360, and he’s played in 140 or more games in each of the last six seasons. His floor is very high for the catcher position, although Posey isn’t nearly as impressive when you compare him to non-catchers. His power numbers have seen a steady decline over the last four years, and he hit only 12 home runs in 2017. At age 32, he’s not going to steal any more than six bases, and he doesn’t have much run or RBI upside in a weak Giants lineup. Posey does have value as a safe pick in fantasy’s weakest position, but you’re going to have to sacrifice in paying for him by likely missing out on a player at another position who can provide you with better overall fantasy numbers.
