Who Should I Draft for Fantasy Football? Dallas Goedert, Jake Ferguson, Brenton Strange Outlooks

Dallas Goedert - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Who should I draft for fantasy football in 2025? Fantasy football outlooks for Dallas Goedert, Jake Ferguson, Brenton Strange and our expert draft advice.

Almost every fantasy manager wants one of the top tight ends this year. Whether that is Brock Bowers, Trey McBride, or George Kittle, there is a clear top three at the tight end position in fantasy this season. So, if you can land one of those tight ends in the early rounds, you will be set for the entire season.

Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to land one of those tight ends. That means some fantasy managers might have to settle for a tight end in the later rounds of drafts. In this article, we will look at whether Dallas Goedert, Jake Ferguson, and Brenton Strange are solid picks at the position this season.

Which tight end should fantasy managers target in drafts? Let's dive in and find out.

Dallas Goedert Fantasy Football Outlook

It's weird seeing Goedert go as low as he's going in fantasy drafts. His ADP currently sits around the TE17, which is very low compared to where he usually goes in drafts. However, following a disappointing fantasy season in which he finished as the TE28 in PPR formats, it makes sense why some fantasy managers might be out on the tight end.

He is the third option on a run-first offense that ranked dead last in pass plays per game in 2024. He has also missed time in each of the past five seasons, including missing six games last year due to multiple lower-body injuries. Nonetheless, Goedert was a much better fantasy option than managers probably realized last season.

The 30-year-old finished as a top-12 fantasy option in five of his 10 games played, and his 10.4 PPR fantasy points per game were tied for 10th among all tight ends. Although some of Goedert's best fantasy games came with A.J. Brown out, there is a path where the veteran could be a reliable low-end TE1 option throughout the 2025 season.

For starters, Goedert has finished top-14 at the tight end position in three of the last four years. If he hadn't missed those six games last season, he was headed for another top-14 fantasy finish. Therefore, the Eagles playmaker should continue to be a high-floor fantasy option, considering he ranked top-7 in target accuracy, yards per route run, and fantasy points per route run among all tight ends in 2024.

Jake Ferguson Fantasy Football Outlook

It was no doubt a season to forget for Ferguson last year. He caught just 59 passes for 494 yards while finishing as the TE25 in PPR formats. That subpar campaign is a significant reason why the Cowboys tight end finds himself going as the TE16 in drafts. However, we should take his 2024 fantasy season with a grain of salt.

The Cowboys were without Dak Prescott for half of the season, and that severely hurt Ferguson's overall numbers. The 26-year-old failed to score in double figures in six of his seven games without Prescott. When the Pro Bowl quarterback was on the field, though, the Dallas playmaker scored at least 11 PPR fantasy points in four of seven contests to start the year.

As a result, we should expect better fantasy numbers from Ferguson in 2025. In the last full season that he played with Prescott (2023), the Wisconsin product finished as the overall TE9 in PPR formats. That campaign saw him finish as a top-12 fantasy tight end in 10 of 17 games during that year.

Given that the Cowboys have always had a top-5 offense when Prescott has been healthy, there will be plenty of targets to go around on offense. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens will certainly lead Dallas' pass-catching group throughout the year. Still, Ferguson will almost certainly be the third option in the passing game on an elite offense.

That should help him emerge as a low-end TE1 option again this season. He has developed a nice connection with Prescott over the last few years and has a TE1 season to his name. So, he's worth a gamble in the later rounds on a Dallas offense that will likely rank top-5 in pass attempts.

Brenton Strange Fantasy Football Outlook

After sitting behind Evan Engram for the last two years, Strange will finally get the opportunity to lead Jacksonville's tight end room. The Jaguars released Engram this offseason, and the 24-year-old showed enough on the field in his first two seasons to earn that starting job. We saw a glimpse of Strange in that starter role last year when Engram dealt with two different multi-week absences.

It was mixed results for him as a starter, but he showed his fantasy upside in some of those contests. From Week 2 to Week 5, the young playmaker finished top 10 at the tight end position in three of those four weeks, including a 12.4 PPR scoring effort in Week 5 against the Colts. He then totaled a career-high 11 catches for 73 yards while scoring 18.3 PPR fantasy points in a game against the Jets in Week 15.

Those types of performances could become the norm for Strange in 2025 with Engram now gone. Year 3 is also when tight ends usually break out. Given that he is set to have an expanded role on offense with a new offensive play caller in Liam Coen, who comes over from the Buccaneers, he has some sneaky fantasy upside this year.

Strange is currently going as the TE21 in drafts, which feels like a low-risk, high-reward selection in the late rounds. Cade Otton just finished as the TE14 in PPR formats in Coen's offense in Tampa Bay last year, and the Jacksonville playmaker could separate himself as the third option in this Jaguars offense behind Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter

Who Should I Draft in Fantasy Football?

All three tight ends featured on this list are going outside the top-120 in Sleeper drafts right now. That means fantasy managers can get one of these three playmakers at a significant discount. Goedert probably has the safest floor of the three, Ferguson likely has the highest ceiling in that electric Cowboys offense, and Strange is somewhere in the middle.

If you are on the clock and looking for a starting tight end or even a backup at the position, Ferguson is the way to go. He is just two years removed from a top-10 tight end fantasy finish, and it's hard to question his upside when Prescott is under center. Back during his TE9 fantasy finish in 2023, the Cowboys playmaker ranked first among all tight ends in red zone targets (25).

So, don't overthink this selection if all three of these tight ends are still available in the later rounds. The Cowboys recognize Ferguson's importance to this offense, which is why they extended his contract this offseason. With all the attention on Lamb and Pickens in the receiving game, the 26-year-old will remain an underrated target for Prescott through the air.
