Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Romeo Doubs, New England Patriots
New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs showed that he's capable of stepping in as the No. 1 target on offense in Week 2. Doubs saw an elevated snap and target share with AJ Brown (ankle) on injured reserve. After catching zero of three targets in the season opener, he bounced back on Sunday against the Steelers with four targets, three catches, and 96 yards.
He's not exactly an alpha receiver like Brown, but he showed that he can provide some stability in the No. 1 role while Brown works to get healthy. Doubs also flashed big-play upside, as 63 of his yards came on one big play. He should continue to produce as a WR3 in fantasy football during next week's potential shootout against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Managers should strongly consider adding Doubs off waivers if he's still available and view him as a viable WR3/FLEX option in deeper formats heading into a Week 3 tilt against the Jaguars. He should remain Drake Maye's No. 2 option, which keeps him on the fantasy radar.
Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears (soreness) is not practicing on Wednesday, with head coach Robert Saleh attributing his absence to general soreness. Both Spears and starter Tony Pollard were given the day off as the team begins preparation for a Week 3 matchup with the Giants. Now in his fourth season with the Titans, Spears was expected to carve out a significant pass-catching role after a strong training camp, but he has caught only two passes in each of the team's first two games.
Through two weeks, only the Vikings have gained fewer total yards than the Titans, making fantasy viability difficult to find out of Tennessee. While neither Spears nor Pollard appears at risk of missing time, their statuses will need to be monitored throughout the week, and if either or both face limitations, it could lead to an expanded role for fifth-round rookie Nicholas Singleton.
If Spears were to slide into a larger role amid Pollard's absence, he could emerge as an FLEX option. For now, though, managers should view him as more of a bench stash.
Davante Adams, Los Angeles Rams
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams caught eight of his 10 targets for 195 yards and two touchdowns during Monday's Week 2 blowout win over the New York Giants. Adams took full advantage of his role as the Rams' No. 1 receiver with Puka Nacua (hip) sidelined, leading the team in targets, catches, yards, and touchdowns.
It was a much-needed bounce-back game for the veteran receiver after he was held to just three catches and 26 yards in the season opener. Adams is unlikely to replicate this level of performance going forward, especially if Nacua returns to the offense going forward. However, the veteran receiver proved that he's still a big-play and touchdown threat, cementing himself as a fringe top-12 fantasy option ahead of Week 3 against the Denver Broncos.
Rashid Shaheed, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Rashid Shaheed finally got a little more work in Week 2, catching three of six targets for 35 yards and adding four yards on one carry against Arizona. That still leaves him with only four catches for 39 yards through two games, so there is not much production to chase yet. Shaheed did play 39 offensive snaps Sunday, more than Cooper Kupp, which at least keeps the role interesting.
Sam Darnold (glute) is also expected back at practice this week after missing Week 2, though his status for Sunday is not settled.
A Darnold return could help, but Jaxon Smith-Njigba has dominated Seattle's passing game and Shaheed remains a volatile option behind him. There is still enough big-play ability and playing time to justify some patience. Shaheed makes sense as a bench stash for managers with room, but he is not a priority waiver claim and can be replaced if a stronger option is available. He remains off the Week 3 radar in standard leagues.
