Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers (hamstring) will "likely be on a pitch count" if he gets cleared to play in his team's Week 3 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Flowers suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1 that sidelined him in Week 2, and he's officially listed as questionable to play on Sunday.
Per Fowler, the star wideout is expected to test out his hamstring pregame before the Ravens make a final call on his status against the Cowboys. When healthy, Flowers profiles as a clear must-start wide receiver for fantasy managers, especially in a favorable matchup against Dallas. His production could suffer if he's unable to play his normal snap share, and fantasy managers may have to decide whether or not to start Flowers before knowing his status.
Still, Flowers' high-end production upside could be worth the risk.
Emmett Johnson, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Emmett Johnson has been electric with the ball in his hands and his excellent play should earn him more opportunities moving forward. Johnson handled two carries for 15 yards and caught two passes for 20 yards in the 33-30 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.
The rookie back has been working behind Kenneth Walker, who has been spectacular to start the season, but Johnson has been impressive in his own right. The 22-year-old has been one of the best backs in the league in terms of missed tackles forced per attempt. Johnson's ability to elude and run through tacklers makes him a dynamic playmaker in the open field. Johnson should see more work this week when the Chiefs take on the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins defense has been poor to start the year, so Johnson could be valuable even in a backup role. Johnson is ranked RB39 in our RotoBaller Week 3 PPR rankings, making him a borderline RB3 heading into Miami. Johnson should be considered one of the best handcuff running backs to roster in fantasy football while also carrying some standalone value.
Malik Nabers, New York Giants
New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers enters Week 3 with plenty of question marks after a poor showing against the Los Angeles Rams. Through two weeks, Nabers has caught just seven of 13 targets for 70 yards, averaging just over five half-PPR fantasy points per game. With starting quarterback Jaxson Dart (knee) out for the season after undergoing knee surgery, Jameis Winston is set to take over as the starter.
In Matt Nagy's offense, the Giants could lean more on the running game and limit Winston's passing volume, which would hurt Nabers immensely. Despite a great matchup against the Titans, who have allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season, heavy rain and wind are expected in East Rutherford on Sunday. With a potentially run-heavy script and Nabers' early-season struggles, he is a risky start for Week 3.
Breece Hall, New York Jets
New York Jets running back Breece Hall struggled to find room against Green Bay, finishing with 29 yards on 16 carries, but his work in the passing game saved the afternoon. Hall caught all five of his targets for 63 yards, including a 43-yard gain. Braelon Allen took the short rushing touchdown, but Hall still handled 21 touches and remained the clear lead back.
Detroit just allowed James Cook III to run for 135 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while Josh Allen added another 69 yards and two scores on the ground. It is a much more appealing setup than Hall had against the Packers. RotoBaller ranks him as the RB13 for Week 3. Allen could continue stealing some short-yardage work, but Hall's combination of carries and receiving involvement keeps him firmly in fantasy lineups.
Keon Coleman, Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman bounced back from a one-catch, one-yard opener by catching all six of his targets for 63 yards against Detroit. His own availability is now the issue. Coleman missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury before returning on a limited basis Friday, and he is officially questionable. Head coach Joe Brady said both Coleman and DJ Moore will be game-time decisions.
If Coleman plays, the six-target Week 2 performance gives fantasy managers something more encouraging to work with than his opener did. There is still plenty of competition for looks from Moore, Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid. RotoBaller ranks Coleman as the WR65 for Week 3, keeping him outside the normal flex range. His value rises if Moore sits, but Coleman is still better suited for deeper leagues if the full receiving group is available.
