Tony Pollard 2019 Player Outlook: Ride Him While You Can
5 years agoDallas Cowboys' running back Tony Pollard was not on many radars before training camp started. As yet another face in the Ezekiel Elliott dominated backfield, he was not expected to be much more than a relief option for Elliott. However, the holdout situation for Elliott has thrust Pollard into a staring role as we get closer to the season. The rookie running back has impressed in preseason and camp and is now set to be the leader of the backfield for the Cowboys in Week 1, and for as long as Elliott is absent. He is not as talented as Elliott, but he should see plenty of opportunity. The Cowboys ranked 10th in rush attempts last season, so while Pollard is the leader of this backfield he is a must-start on a weekly basis. His draft stock should be tempered by the potential short-term nature of his role. Elliott will be back at some point this season, and when he is he will be the lead back once again. Until then Pollard is a back you should look to ride and ride hard, especially if you are the Elliott owner and need to plug someone in while he is not with the team.
