Ben Roethlisberger 2020 Outlook: Big Ben Still Valuable As A QB2
5 years agoPittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has become a forgotten man in fantasy after playing just two games last season due to an elbow injury, but the veteran signal-caller was still playing at a high level as recently as 2018 and offers intriguing upside as a late-round quarterback. Two years ago, Roethlisberger set a new career-high with 34 touchdown passes and led the NFL with 320.6 yards per game en route to finishing as the QB3 in fantasy. He won't have Antonio Brown anymore, but the Steelers still boast an impressive receiving core led by JuJu Smith-Schuster. In addition to the Pro Bowl wideout, Pittsburgh signed tight end Eric Ebron and used their second-round pick on Chase Claypool who will join Vance McDonald to give Roethlisberger three targets over six-foot-four which is great news for an accurate passer like Roethlisberger. He completed 67 percent of his passes in 2018 and has had a completion percentage above 64 percent every year since 2013 so he should thrive in this offense that led the league in passing attempts last time their starting QB was healthy. Roethlisberger's weekly ceiling is lower than other QBs as he won't contribute rushing stats, but as the 18th QB off the board in fantasy drafts Roethlisberger has upside as a backup QB or a high-end QB2 in multi-quarterback leagues.
