Daily Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/3) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the August 4th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the August 3rd games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • She wanted a diamond the size of Montana. "Go to Jarred," they said. He did & Kelenic provided (four). She will love it.
  • 3B Eugenio Suarez is a career .255 AVG. SS Suarez is a career .175 hitter. No-brainer. Oh, 21 HR to wooo me.
  • "Wheeler was still pretty dominant today. 7 IP, 4 ER, 8 K." **Pssst, that is Patrick Corbin's line. Zack Wheeler: 7.1 IP, 1 ER, 5 K** "Oh....Ok. Well, Corbin's line sucks." What just happened?!"
  • With 115 mph Max exit velo, power isn't an issue for Josh Bell (18). He just loves the Whack-A-Mole game.
  • Is 27 HR, 18 SB, .285 AVG a second-round talent? Watch people turn into red-ass baboons if I attach Bryce Harper's name to it.
  • Joey Gallo served as a hype man for his teammates that got hits, which was everyone else.
  • Luis Gil w/ 32% CSW using three pitches. I'm intrigued.
  • Giancarlo Stanton (17) & Aaron Judge (22) throw another steak on the grill w/ little fanfare.
  • Damn, Blue Jays treated Zach Plesac like we do our rental cars....with reckless abandon. Yep, get a reverse-180 in while you still got it.
  • Hyun-Jin Ryu doesn't have to be as careful w/ his wins. He's got an entourage of support. 7 IP, 2 ER, 8 K (Still has a 4.1 SIERA)
  • Hey! Who put Corey Dickerson in this picture. The whole feng shui is off.
  • Horhay Springer (12) struttin' his stuff like Travolta in Saturday Night Fever
  • Jarren Duran is Hungry Like The Wolf. First SB.
  • Wait, why does he get free FroYo? He's only batting .219 in last month. "Cause Hunter Renfroe has eight HR during that time....and doggone it, people like him."
  • Four straight starts with at least four runs allowed for Taijuan Walker. We might hang back on PHI/LAD next.
  • Willy Adames has opened a one-man moving company (19).
  • Starling Marte, I can whip up some of my house-famous meatloaf w/ taters & sweet tea. Combo Meal! 8th HR/27th SB.
  • Can we get a quality check on aisle 14? Make sure Ozuna isn't wearing Jorge Soler clothes.
  • Abraham Toro has taken to the whole Seattle vibe. 3 HR, 1 SB, .440 AVG in the last seven games. Must be the coffee. **Psst, they were in Tampa last night, Du-Mass**
  • Could you really see the giddy boy inside me? Sorry, Jo Adell excitement building. Three-for-four w/ SB.
  • Randy Arozarena (16) is the quiet guy in the corner you should be worried about.
  • Yes, one large pizza with pepperoni and Olivares. Yes, you heard that right. Second SB.
  • Tyler Mahle Mirage continues.
  • Friar, what did you do to my Sean Manaea. 4.1 IP, 5 ER
  • Max Fried okra is delicious. Eighth W.
  • Jon Lester....why?
  • Of course Blake Snell would. Unpredictability at its finest.
  • Cardinals OF might be fantasy dangerous in 2022.
  • Just breathe, Ian Happ. No pressure now. 11th HR. Just make contact. It's comeback time.
  • Well, excuse the F* out of me. I thought 11 HR, .300 AVG in the last 30 games at 'C' spot might interest you. (Elias Diaz - 7% rostered)
  • Sam Hilliard (3HR, .33 AVG in the last seven games) is playing in a MAN's Field. **You'll get it if you get it. God bless TX**
  • LAD, Madison Bumgarner might have helped you take care of SF.
  • HAHAHAHA! Stop laughing. HAHAHAHA! That's not nice. "These are the Deadly Dodgers?" ~ Lance McCullers Jr.
  • Teoscar Hernandez (17) sings in the unsung category.
  • Yordan Alvarez' foreign policy is also “Walk softly & carry a big stick.” 20th HR.
  • COVID knows no timeline...if it did, surely it would happen on Sundays or Mondays before lineups lock.

Endgame

Closing Thoughts

  • Fear. My tagline says it all. Don't let fear dictate your fantasy decisions. "I don't want to drop them." "What if someone else benefits?" These thoughts could clog your roster. Step back, look at the big picture, & make good decisions.
  • (No Fear, Just Fantasy)
