JorgePucks highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 5/16/21, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

As is customary on Sundays, we have a very large slate to dissect with lots of batting and pitching options for us to consider. We have some top arms like Boyd, Ynoa, and Wood while we also have some great offenses like Houston, Boston, and Chicago to choose from.

I'll be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for the FanDuel main slate on 5/16/2021. Be sure to also check out all the MLB player news, including late scratches, and the projected and confirmed daily MLB lineups for each DFS slate.

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Cash Game/GPP Anchor Play:

Alex Wood - SFG @ PIT ($7,500)

The pitching options are a tad tougher on this Sunday slate but Alex Wood looks to be one of the best arms to consider in all formats. Wood is 4-0 on the year with a 1.80 ERA while striking out 29 batters in 30 total innings pitched and gets a favorable matchup against the Pirates. Pittsburgh is batting .197 against left-handed pitchers this season and only has six home runs on the year against this handedness which is the second-lowest amount in the entire league. Wood is generating a 12.5% swinging strike rate on the year and is getting batters to swing at pitches out of the zone 32.8% of the time. With his price point below 8k, he offers upside while also allowing for you to spend up for bats in your lineup as well.

Alternate Play(s)

Huascar Ynoa - ATL vs. MIL ($8,400)

Ynoa has gotten off to a good start as he is 4-1 with a 2.23 ERA and 44 strikeouts in just 40.1 innings pitched. Ynoa has been a very solid starter for Atlanta as he has produced 30+ FD points in six of his eight starts and has won four straight games while picking up a quality start in three of those games. The Brewers are hitting .203 against right-handed pitchers this year which is the lowest batting average in the league against right-handed pitchers. In addition to having the lowest average, they also lead the league with 299 strikeouts against righties and have a 23.1% strikeout percentage as a team against this handedness.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Yasmani Grandal - C, CWS @ KCR ($2,800)

Grandal could be a good tournament play at his price point which is below 3k. Despite a rough start to the season, Grandal could be showing signs of life at the plate as he has hit a home run in two of his last four games played. Grandal profiles well against Singer who throws primarily sliders and sinkers to lefty hitters and Grandal carries a .384+ XwOBA against both of these pitches.

Jean Segura - 2B/3B, PHI @ TOR ($2,100)

The pricing on Segura is too low to not consider him in all formats. Segura is sporting a 236. ISO against lefties this year and is batting .278 against this handedness. Robbie Ray is not what he once was as a pitcher so he could get hit pretty good against some of these righties on the Phillies. He throws his fastball and slider to right-handed batters for a combined 73% of the time and Segura hits those pitches well as he has an ISO  of .192 against both of those pitches.

Alec Bohm - 3B, PHI @ TOR ($2,500)

Keeping in line with picking on Ray, Alec Bohm is another Phillies hitter to consider rostering, especially at his low price point. Bohm is hitting lefty-pitchers better than he is at hitting righties as he is batting .263 with two home runs against this handedness while sporting a .233 ISO as well. Bohm has an XwOBA of .410+ for both pitches and righties have a .241 ISO against Ray this season.

Xander Bogaerts, SS, BOS vs. LAA ($3,600)

Bogaerts carries massive upside as he is swinging a hot bat as he has recorded six hits in his last nine at-bats with two of those hits being a home run. He is hitting .375 against lefties this season with four home runs while also having a .253 ISO against this handedness. Quintana throws four pitches against right-handed batters and Bogaerts profiles well against all of those pitches (carrying a .344 XwOBA against all pitches and .316 and .450 ISO against his slider and fastball).

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Aaron Judge - OF, NYY @ BAL ($3,400)

Judge is certainly under-priced for how hot his bat has been over the last week of games played. He has hit a home run in back-to-back games while recording a hit in six of his last seven games played. Adam Plutko is projected as the Orioles starter and he primarily throws his fastball and slider to righties close to 80% of the time and these are pitches that Judge profiles well against as he has a .216 ISO against both pitches and a .484 XwOBA+ against both pitch types as well.

Teoscar Hernandez - OF, TOR vs. PHI ($3,000)

The Phillies and Blue Jays game could have some offensive fireworks so getting some shares of Toronto could be a move to consider. Hernandez has been seeing the ball well over his last two weeks of games played as he has recorded a hit in eight out of his last 10 games played while hitting three home runs during that stretch. Hernandez has a .239 ISo against righties and Chase Anderson has been getting hit by right-handed batters this season as righties are hitting .281 against him with a .456 slugging percentage.

Hunter Renfroe - OF, BOS vs. LAA ($2,500)

Renfroe is a cheap outfield option that can be trusted in this matchup against Quintana. He is hitting lefties well this season by having a batting average of .303 and an ISO of .319 against this handedness which is the third-highest ISO rate on the Red Sox. While the top of the Red Sox lineup could be chalky, differentiating and grabbing Renfroe and Bobby Dalbec could be a way to be different in tournaments while still getting exposure to a REDS ox team that could put up some runs today.
