Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Outlooks
Some of the top waiver wire names include A.J. Ewing, Henry Bolte, and more. Read some of the waiver wire outlooks below:
A.J. Ewing, 2B/OF, New York Mets
New York Mets outfield prospect A.J. Ewing is starting in center field and will hit eighth in the batting order in his major-league debut on Tuesday against the visiting Detroit Tigers and right-hander Jack Flaherty, according to MLB.com.
The Mets are calling on their second-ranked prospect (per MLB Pipeline) to inject some life into their struggling offense with Luis Robert Jr. (back) still on the injured list. The 21-year-old got the call to the majors after hitting .339/.447/.514 with a .961 OPS, two homers, 11 RBI, 17 stolen bases, and 25 runs scored in 30 games with Triple-A Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton this year.
At least until Robert returns, Ewing should play regularly in center field in New York against right-handed pitching. Ewing's power stroke is still developing, so fantasy managers shouldn't count on many home runs. He's a contact-oriented outfielder with plus speed. Ewing is only rostered in 13% of Yahoo leagues currently. Ewing went 1-for-2 with a triple, three walks, two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base in his MLB debut on Tuesday.
Henry Bolte, OF, Athletics
According to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, the Athletics are promoting outfield prospect Henry Bolte to the major leagues. The team's No. 5-ranked prospect according to MLB.com has been swinging a hot bat at Triple-A Las Vegas this season and is being rewarded with an early promotion.
Through 37 games with the Aviators, the outfielder has posted an impressive .348/.418/.658 line with a 1.076 OPS. During this stretch, Bolte has flashed high-end speed upside, swiping 17 bags while launching 12 long balls.
Last summer, Bolte showed similar speed upside, stealing 44 bags over a 114-game stint in the upper minors, but had minimal power, hitting only nine round-trippers. Seeing Bolte begin to tap into his raw power makes him a priority waiver option ahead of his debut. If he sees an everyday role, Bolte could possess elite speed upside while pushing for double-digit home runs.
Gregory Soto, RP, Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Gregory Soto picked up his fourth save of the season on Tuesday in his team's 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies. Soto allowed two hits and an earned run, but managed to shut the door on the Rockies in the ninth. The 31-year-old is off to an excellent start to the 2026 season, as he's pitched to a 1.69 ERA and 0.71 WHIP with 26 strikeouts across 21 1/2 innings pitched.
Soto has also earned saves in three out of his last four appearances and appears to be emerging as the primary closer in Pittsburgh after opening the season in a setup role. In any league where he's not already rostered, Soto profiles as a must-add closer for fantasy managers to target on the waiver wire.
Jared Jones, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones (elbow) looked impressive in his third minor-league rehab start on Tuesday with Double-A Altoona, tossing four scoreless innings with three hits allowed, no walks, and four strikeouts.
The 24-year-old former second-round pick in 2020 hasn't shown a dip in velocity during his three rehab starts after having surgery on his right elbow last year, and he threw 36 of his 52 pitches for strikes on Tuesday. Jones is on the 60-day injured list, which means he's not eligible to be reinstated to make his 2026 season debut until later this month. Because of his extended absence, fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect him to rejoin Pittsburgh's starting rotation until early June.
He'll have at least a few more starts down on the farm to build up his pitch count. Jones has been overshadowed by pitching phenom Paul Skenes in Pittsburgh, but he was impressive in his 22 starts in his rookie season in 2024 and is one of the better injured pitchers to stash in fantasy leagues. He's currently rostered in 35% of Yahoo leagues as he makes his way back.
Robby Snelling, SP, Miami Marlins
