Players to Target in Trades for Fantasy Baseball

Edwin Diaz, RP, Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed closer Edwin Diaz (elbow) is throwing off a bullpen mound at Dodger Stadium on Friday before the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles, according to Jack Harris of The California Post. It's a good sign for the state of his recovery, and manager Dave Roberts said Diaz has been progressing well from surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow in April. Diaz has been on the injured list since April 20 and won't return to the Dodgers' bullpen until well into the second half of the season.

The 32-year-old Puerto Rican hurler and three-time All-Star got off to a rough start to his Dodgers' tenure by allowing seven earned runs on nine hits (one homer) while walking five and striking out 10 in his first six innings before landing on the shelf. Diaz also picked up four saves. Despite his disappointing 2026 campaign to this point, fantasy managers should keep him stashed in most redraft formats, as he'll be the unquestioned closer for the best team in baseball whenever he returns.

Since Diaz went down, left-hander Tanner Scott has been Roberts' preferred closing option in the ninth inning, and he's having a bounce-back season.

Verdict: Top injured player to "buy-low." Those who can take a short-term hit should look to acquire this high-end closer before he embarks on a rehab assignment after the All-Star break.

Logan Henderson, SP, Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Logan Henderson (back) is scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Sunday, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. It's unclear where Henderson's rehab assignment will take place, but the 24-year-old is getting close to rejoining the Brew Crew after missing the last month with a strained lower back. An "early July" return is projected for Henderson as long as he doesn't suffer a setback with his back during his rehab assignment.

Before getting injured, Henderson went 2-1 this year with a nice 2.74 ERA (2.40 FIP) and 1.04 WHIP with 30 strikeouts and only six walks in 23 innings pitched across his five starts for Milwaukee. With his return to Milwaukee's starting rotation not far off, fantasy managers needing rotation help should consider stashing the former fourth-round pick in 2021 out of McLennan Community College soon. He went 3-0 in his first five MLB starts in 2025 with a 1.78 ERA (3.02 FIP), 0.99 WHIP, and 33:8 K:BB in 25 1/3 innings pitched.

Verdict: Henderson is a risky buy-low target ahead of his return. While he does possess a high risk of re-injury when on the mound, the young right-hander has flashed high-end strikeout upside that is worth chasing.

Players to Trade Away for Fantasy Baseball

Zack Gelof, 2B/OF, Athletics

Athletics infielder/outfielder Zack Gelof (hand) is absent from the team's starting lineup on Wednesday against the hosting San Francisco Giants after suffering a laceration and contusion on his right hand after being stepped on during Tuesday's contest, per MLB.com. Max Muncy is making the start for the A's at third base and will hit eighth against Giants right-hander Tyler Mahle (hamstring), who is making his first start back from the injured list.

The good news for Gelof is that his hand injury shouldn't be anything that requires him to spend time on the injured list. The 26-year-old is finally realizing his potential so far in 209 at-bats for the A's in 2026 after he was a second-round selection in 2021 out of the University of Virginia. Gelof is slashing .282/.336/.498 this year with an .834 OPS, 11 home runs, 29 RBI, 40 runs, and eight stolen bases across 62 games and 228 plate appearances.

Verdict: Gelof is a top sell-high candidate. Even though he is enjoying the most dominant stretch of his career, his low .231 xBA and .298 xwOBA suggest he is greatly overperforming his expected marks and could take a massive step back in the coming weeks.

Sonny Gray, SP, Boston Red Sox

Boston Red Sox right-hander Sonny Gray continued his strong first season in Boston in 2026 with his ninth victory of the season on Tuesday night in the 5-2 win over the Colorado Rockies at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Gray was stingy and had his swing-and-miss stuff working in Denver, allowing just one earned run on six hits (a solo homer) while walking three and striking out a season-high 11 batters in seven innings pitched.

The 36-year-old veteran hasn't displayed a lot of swing-and-miss stuff this year despite getting solid results, but he generated 16 swings and misses on Tuesday night in the thin air of the Mile High City. Gray now has a 2.95 ERA (3.81 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with 66 strikeouts and 20 walks in 76 1/3 innings pitched in his first 14 starts with the BoSox.

He's been a bit fortunate given his lack of swing-and-miss stuff -- his 21.1% strikeout rate is his lowest mark since 2018 with the New York Yankees. Gray is firmly on the sell-high radar in fantasy as we near the end of the first half.

Verdict: While Gray is enjoying a productive stretch, his metrics suggest regression is looming. Currently, the right-hander sits with a 3.80 xERA, which is nearly 100 points higher than his face-value 2.95 ERA.
