Jeimer Candelario Activated and DFA'd
Jeimer Candelario (back) from the 10-day injured list and designated him for assignment. Candelario has been on the IL since April 30 with a lumbar spine strain, but the 31-year-old veteran switch-hitter won't return to Cincy's big-league roster at this time and could become a free agent if he clears waivers. Before his back injury, he was hitting a lowly .113 with a strikeout rate over 30%, two home runs and 10 RBI in 91 trips to the plate for the Reds. During a 15-game sample during his minor-league rehab assignment, Candelario hit .211/.318/.333 on the farm. The Reds are apparently comfortable splitting playing time at third base between Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Santiago Espinal moving forward. Candelario's best path to fantasy value again is probably via a change of scenery.
