Jordan Hicks to Begin Triple-A Rehab Assignment Sunday
Jordan Hicks (toe) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. If all goes well, Hicks will debut with the Red Sox on a homestand that runs from June 27-July 2. Hicks joined the Red Sox last weekend as part of their return from the San Francisco Giants for star slugger Rafael Devers. The 28-year-old hurler last pitched June 1 and then went on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right big toe. Hicks has worked most of his career as a reliever, but he opened this year as a starter before the Giants demoted him to their bullpen. He has recorded a bloated 6.47 ERA (3.85 xERA) with 43:20 K:BB in 48 2/3 innings this season. It appears the Red Sox will use Hicks in relief. "We're absolutely excited about bringing Jordan Hicks, a dominant late-inning reliever, into our mix," general manager Craig Breslow said when Boston acquired Hicks.
