Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Outlooks
Some of the top names include Pierce Johnson, Andrew Vaughn, Spencer Jones, Logan Henderson, Robby Snelling, and more. We recap why these players rostered under 70% in Yahoo! leagues should be on your waiver wire radar:
Pierce Johnson, Cincinnati Reds
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Pierce Johnson was called upon to hold a two-run lead against the Houston Astros on Saturday. The Reds are without closer Emilio Pagan (hamstring), so they'll need to find a new ninth-inning option. Johnson has put himself in the mix after tossing a clean inning to earn his first save of the season on Saturday.
He needed only 12 pitches to retire the side in order during Saturday's 3-1 victory. He owns a 3.38 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and a 15/5 K:BB ratio across 16 innings this season. Johnson could be the favorite for saves in Cincinnati with Tony Santillan and Graham Ashcraft in the mix as well.
Andrew Vaughn, Milwaukee Brewers
Logan Henderson, Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Logan Henderson got called up to the big league club after Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day IL on April 30, while Jacob Misiorowski (hamstring) tweaked his leg in the same week. Misiorowski pitched and made his start against the Yankees on Friday, striking out 11 over six scoreless innings.
Woodruff remains on the IL, which allows Henderson a few more starts to try and earn his spot in Milwaukee's starting rotation. Henderson is no stranger to MLB, having been called up in 2025 and starting five games with a 1.78 ERA over 25 1/3 innings for the Brewers. The Brewers sent him back down to Triple-A after his outing on April 3.
Henderson was excellent in his previous start against the Washington Nationals, allowing two earned runs, three hits, and no walks in six innings pitched while striking out eight. The Brewers historically have been hesitant to give Henderson a long leash to stay in the rotation. Still, over seven career MLB starts dating back to last season, he has a 2.43 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 33 1/3 innings.
If Henderson continues to prove that he belongs, the Brewers may have no choice but to keep him up. Regardless, Henderson is a must-add off the wire for the time being, given his success through seven career MLB starts and his top-100 MLB pipeline rank pedigree.
Robby Snelling, Miami Marlins
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Robby Snelling took the loss in his first MLB start on Friday against the Nationals. He worked five innings and gave up three runs on five hits and four walks while throwing 86 pitches. After starting the game with an impressive strikeout of James Wood, he gave up all three runs in the first inning, including a two-run blast from Jacob Young.
Snelling settled in and didn't give up a run in the next four frames, but he also didn't have any strikeouts during those innings. The 22-year-old lefty had a sparkling 1.86 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 29 innings at Triple-A, and he still brings a high ceiling and excellent strikeout potential for as long as he stays in the starting rotation. His next turn lines up to be Thursday in Minnesota, and he remains a great option in the future, even though the results weren't ideal in his debut.
Spencer Jones, New York Yankees
New York Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones made his long-awaited MLB debut on Friday night, and if you are looking for some power potential on the waiver wire, he has a lot of upside to offer. Jones went 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts in his debut, but facing flame-throwing Jacob Misiorowski is a tough ask for any rookie.
The 24-year-old lefty still has plenty of upside to consider moving forward, though, after he crushed 11 homers in his 33 games in Triple-A this season and hit 35 homers in 116 games in the minors last year. Jones has had an extremely high strikeout rate throughout his career and has been a "two-outcome" option throughout his climb through the minors.
If he gets regular playing time, he will likely be able to produce power in the majors as well. However, he will also likely hurt your batting average or other categories that reward contact over pure power. With Jasson Dominguez (shoulder) and Giancarlo Stanton (calf) both on the shelf, Jones should see near everyday at-bats in the short term.
