Players to Target in Trades for Fantasy Baseball

Joey Cantillo, SP, Cleveland Guardians

Cleveland Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo (1-0) is off to a great start to the 2026 season, posting a 2.61 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 24:9 K:BB across 20 2/3 innings. He is becoming a key part of Cleveland's rotation and owns an elite 29.6 K% and a 11.4% swinging strike rate through four starts. Cantillo had been pitching well last season after joining the rotation in July, posting a 2.96 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 72:28 K:BB over 67 innings over his last 13 starts.

The 26-year-old has allowed two earned runs or less in each of his four starts and will look to continue his impressive stretch in his next start Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Fantasy managers looking for a streamer on Sunday and a boost to their pitching staff should consider adding Cantillo. He is currently rostered in 52% of Yahoo Fantasy leagues and is becoming a priority add for fantasy managers in need of starting pitching.

Verdict: Top buy-high candidate in deeper leagues. Cantillo is on a breakout trajectory and could emerge as a must-start starting pitcher.

Pete Crow-Armstrong, OF, Chicago Cubs

Across his first 77 plate appearances of 2026, Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is hitting .236/.276/.306 with one home run, five RBI, 12 runs scored, and four stolen bases. The 24-year-old was the talk of baseball to start the 2025 season, posting an .847 OPS with 25 home runs and 27 stolen bases before the All-Star break. However, Crow-Armstrong faltered down the stretch, posting a .634 OPS with just six homers in the season's second half. So far in 2026, Crow-Armstrong has been closer to his second-half self.

He owns a subpar 4% barrel rate and has struck out in 29.9% of his plate appearances while walking at just a 3.9% clip. Crow-Armstrong's athleticism and elite defense should keep him in the Cubs' lineup and allow him to rack up stolen bases and counting stats. Still, the high-end power/speed upside that Crow-Armstrong showcased early in 2025 is starting to look more like a temporary hot streak than an established level of production.

Verdict: Prime buy target following his slow start. Crow-Armstrong carries 30/30 upside and should be targeted in all category formats.

Jonathan Aranda, 1B, Tampa Bay Rays

After a hot start to the season, Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda has cooled off significantly throughout most of April. The 27-year-old has just two hits over his last 30 plate appearances (.091), and only eight total base hits this month. His current .214 BA is more than 100 points lower than his 2025 batting average, though this does come with a .246 xBA.

While it is too early in the season to panic, this is something to monitor. Calling Tropicana Field home in 2026 should be considered a downgrade for most hitters, as it is widely considered to be a pitcher's ballpark. That, alongside these early-season struggles, may cause fantasy managers to want to make a change. For now, he can remain on the bench with the hope that he can turn things around and get back to his powerful and productive ways from just one year ago.

Verdict: Sneaky buy-low candidate. Aranda should produce a high batting average while tallying solid counting stats, batting in the heart of this lineup.

Other Players to Target in Trades

  • Pete Alonso, BAL
  • Julio Rodriguez, SEA

Players to Trade Away for Fantasy Baseball

Andy Pages, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages had a breakout season in 2025, but so far is on pace to outproduce that campaign in the early going of 2026. With two hits in his latest contest, the right-handed slugger now has hit safely in 14 of 18 games, with nine multi-hit performances included in there. In all, it has produced a .409/.451/.697 slash line with five home runs, 20 RBI, 10 runs scored, and three steals.

His .502 wOBA and 220 wRC+ both rank in the top three in all of baseball. An unsustainable .512 BABIP and xwOBA that is more than 125 points lower (.376) than his actual wOBA point to eventual regression, but for now, he's hot. Although a slowdown will come at some point, the 25-year-old should continue to have success over the course of the season and is looking like one of the biggest draft-day values of 2026.

Verdict: Look to sell-high for an OF2/OF3 with a longer track record of success

Spencer Strider, SP, Atlanta Braves

Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Strider (oblique) made his first minor-league rehab start on Thursday with High-A Rome and gave up just one hit while walking two and striking out three in 3 1/3 shutout innings. Strider looked good, retiring the first eight batters he faced while getting up to 50 total pitches. He began the 2026 regular season on the 15-day injured list with an oblique strain that he suffered in spring training in mid-March, but he's getting closer to making his season debut in the big leagues.

Strider is expected to need at least two more rehab outings before the Braves feel comfortable throwing him back into their starting rotation. Barring a setback, the 27-year-old could be back in the big leagues in early May. Until then, veteran left-hander Martin Perez could make a few more starts for Atlanta. Strider won a league-high 20 games and also led the league with 281 strikeouts in 186 2/3 innings in 2023, but he pitched in just two games in 2024 before having right-elbow surgery, and he didn't look the same in 23 starts last year.

Verdict: Look to sell Strider once he returns. His recent injury history makes him a high-risk asset as soon as he returns to the bump.

Jeff Hoffman, RP, Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman saw his struggles continue during Saturday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hoffman came into a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning, but things quickly got away from him. Hoffman took the loss after serving up a grand slam to Corbin Carroll. His final line was three hits allowed, four earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts over an inning of work.

Hoffman now sees his ERA rise to 7.71 ERA after an horrendous outing. Despite the struggles, Jays manager John Schneider stated that Hoffman will remain the closer. This will be a situation to monitor if Hoffman continues to struggle going forward.

Verdict: While his high strikeout rates do make him an intriguing RP2 for fantasy, his high fly-ball tendencies do make him very volatile. If these struggles persist, he could fall into a committee.

Other Players to Trade Away

  • Jeffrey Springs, ATH
  • Nico Hoerner, CHC
