Blade Tidwell Heading to San Francisco
Blade Tidwell, reliever Jose Butto and outfield prospect Drew Gilbert from the New York Mets on Wednesday in exchange for right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. It's a massive haul for the Giants in exchange for a veteran submariner. The 24-year-old Tidwell was ranked as the Mets' No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The former second-rounder in 2022 out of Tennessee made his big-league debut with the Mets this year and allowed 15 earned runs on 23 hits (four homers) while walking 10 and striking out 10 in four appearances (two starts). He's expected to start at Triple-A Sacramento, but Tidwell has a clearer path to a rotation spot in the big leagues in the Bay Area. Tidwell will need to improve his walk rate to get his shot in San Francisco.
