3 Impact Fantasy Baseball Prospects To Stash - Brady House, Cole Young, Jacob Melton

Three top fantasy baseball prospects - Brady House, Cole Young, Jacob Melton - that can make big impacts. These MLB prospects are waiver wire pickups or stashes.

This weekend, we saw two teams promote two of their top prospects. Both of them tallied a hit in their MLB debuts and appear to have a full-time role in their respective lineups.

In addition, there is a budding star in the Washington system who could soon be joining James Wood, Robert Hassell III, CJ Abrams, and Dylan Crews in the major leagues.

So, let's dive in and see if these three prospects should be stashed or grabbed off the waiver wire before they reach the next step in their development.

Brady House, 3B, Washington Nationals

Current Level: Triple-A

2025 MiLB stats: 54 G, .292/.350/.509, 10 HRs, 33 RBI, 38 R, 62 SO

I'm starting to think that Brady House is up before the end of June. He's been hitting well in Triple-A this season, and especially over the last 30 days, where he has a .301/.348/.534 slash line with nine doubles and five home runs in 112 plate appearances. For the season, House is slashing .292/.350/.509 with 10 home runs in 234 plate appearances.

House has been showcasing above-average quality of contact metrics in Triple-A this season with a 90.9 mph AVG EV, 46.7% hard-hit rate, and a 10.5% barrel rate. However, his contact rate is down around 70%, with a zone contact a hair below 80%. Those aren't terrible metrics, but they probably limit House in the AVG department for a bit.

This is also a great sign as House struggled during his first taste of Triple-A action in 2024. Last season, House made his Triple-A debut and appeared in 54 games with the Rochester Red Wings. However, during this stint, the No. 94-ranked prospect in baseball on MLB.com held a modest .250/.280/.375 line with just 10 doubles and six home runs.

Seeing the house take a significant step forward, especially in terms of power, is an excellent sign.

House could still wind up as a .250/25 type, though, and the Nationals aren't getting any impact from Jose Tena, who is currently slashing .254/.321/.381 with zero home runs and a 97 wRC+ in 131 plate appearances this season. If he continues to perform at this level, House could get the call to the big leagues in a few weeks.

Cole Young, INF, Seattle Mariners

The Mariners promoted their No. 3-ranked prospect in their system on Saturday. Through his first two games in the majors, Young has started in each of the games at the keystone but has gone 1-for-7 at the plate. His lone hit was an RBI single on Saturday, which served as the game-winning hit.

He has struck out twice and drawn one walk.

The Mariners selected Young with the 21st pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of North Allegheny HS. Following the draft, Young quickly made his professional debut, logging 17 games split between the ACL and Low-A Modesto. During this stretch, Young held a .367/.423/.517 line.

In 2023, Young would spend most of his time with Low-A before earning a taste of High-A action in the second half. During his first look at High-A (48 games), Young did not need much time to adjust as he posted an impressive .292/.404/.479 line with 14 doubles, six home runs, and five stolen bases. This strong play gave him the green light to open 2024 with Double-A Arkansas.

In his first look at the upper levels, Young saw his power production drop as he finished his season (all 124 games with Double-A) carrying a modest .271/.369/.390 line with a .759 OPS. He hit just nine round-trippers.

However, the No. 43-ranked prospect in the sport showed enough growth as the Mariners opted for Young to open the season with Triple-A Tacoma. During his first taste of Triple-A, Young was dominant, posting a stellar .277/.392/.461 line with a 28:31 K:BB and 15 doubles, five home runs, and five swiped bags.

With J.P. Crawford as the everyday second baseman, fantasy managers should expect Young to be given most of the opportunities at the keystone. Seeing him start in each of his first two MLB games is a very positive sign. Before his promotion, Dylan Moore was the primary second baseman but held an underwhelming line of .205/.279/.333 since May 14.

As a result, Young is worth adding in all 12+ team leagues as a middle infielder with upside.

Jacob Melton, OF, Houston Astros

The final prospect we will look at is outfielder Jacob Melton of the Houston Astros. Melton sits just outside the top 100 list on MLB.com but is considered the No. 2-ranked prospect in the Houston system.

Like Young, Melton was also given the call to the majors this past weekend. The Astros promoted Melton from Triple-A Sugar Land prior to Sunday's contest against the Tampa Bay Rays. In this game, Melton was given the starting nod in center field and batted in the eight-hole. He went 1-for-3 at the plate with two strikeouts.

Melton had a delayed start to the campaign due to a back injury. Once cleared for action, he began his season with Triple-A. Melton needed just 17 games to prove he was ready for the majors. During this stint, he held a .254/.371/.508 line with nine doubles, two long balls, and added three stolen bases. During his first taste of Triple-A last summer, Melton held a similar .260/.214/.405 line with five home runs and 11 stolen bases across 47 contests.

He began the 2024 season with Double-A before making his Triple-A debut. With Double-A, he continued to showcase his potent power/speed combination as he hit 10 home runs and stole 19 bases across a 58-game stint. In 2023, Melton hit 23 home runs and stole 46 bases across 99 games between High-A and Double-A.

Similar to Young, Melton could have a path to everyday at-bats early in his MLB career. Currently, the Astros' outfield is decimated by injuries, as both Yordan Alvarez (hand) and Chas McCormick (oblique) are on the injured list, and their timelines are undefined. In addition, the Astros placed Zach Dezenzo (hand) on the injured list, who sees time in the corner outfield spots and first base.

As a result, Melton could continue to have an everyday role sharing time in the outfield with Cam Smith, Jose Altuve, and Jake Meyers.

Given his five-category upside, he should be added in all 12+ team five-outfielder leagues.
