When is Trey Benson coming back? Will Trey Benson play again this season? Read about Trey Benson's return date and injury updates for 2025 as of Week 13.
Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson (knee) hopefully can return soon, so fantasy football managers can stop worrying about what his role will be when he comes back and when he'll actually take the field again.
Dealing with having him on your roster has been a frustrating experience. Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon isn't one to give out a lot of information about his players' injuries.
That said, at least we're likely nearing the end of his absence. It's been a ride fantasy managers have been on in dealing with Arizona's backup RBs. So, when will Benson come back?

Trey Benson Injury Update for Fantasy Football
The good news is that he must return by Week 14 at the latest, or he'll be placed on season-ending injured reserve. Teams don't open their players' 21-day practice windows just to have them miss the rest of the year unless there's a setback. It's unlikely there will be one in practice.
The window being open is good news as well. The bad news is that we likely won't know when Benson will return until he's officially given a game-day designation. The Cardinals have not told us what his specific injury is or given us an actual return timetable yet.

You can hear what Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon had to say about it above. That's all the updates we have. We're pretty sure he won't miss the rest of the season now. Yay!
Trey Benson Fantasy Football Outlook
Benson will become a must-start RB upon his return. The role he has in his offense is simply outstanding -- in his only game as the starter, he had 13 of the 14 total running back opportunities before he exited with his injury. Only RB Michael Carter logged a touch in that span.
When he's back, things will probably look much the same, though he might need some time to ramp up. That doesn't mean you won't be starting him as a flex immediately upon his return, but we could see some frustrating usage split when he's back.

Here's the clip of him running for 52 yards for the 500,000th time (if you've read my other articles on Benson, in case you needed an update) to show that he's quite explosive. With a big role like that, he can stand to have a lot of negative runs as long as he's getting a lot of receptions and breaking off big plays.
It only takes one or two big plays per game for a player like Benson to end up with double-digit PPR fantasy points consistently. The Cardinals offense also looks better without QB Kyler Murray (foot) playing -- somehow, they've taken a step forward under backup signal-caller Jacoby Brissett.
Benson should be started in all leagues upon his return to full health. In the first game, maybe it'll be hard to trust him in 10-team leagues, but we'll be able to evaluate if he's at a full workload at that point. And once he is, he has legitimate RB2 value.
If you have him, hopefully he's not your best running back. Even if he is, you could still have a chance, as he's a solid bet to score double-digit PPR fantasy points in every game he plays unless Arizona's offense completely collapses.
