Kendrick Bourne 2022 NFL Player Outlook: The Patriots' Swiss Army Knife Facing More Target Competition
2 years agoNew England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne posted a career-high in receiving yards in 2021. The former San Francisco 49er caught 55 passes on 70 targets for 800 yards and five touchdowns. The 70 targets were the second highest of Bourne's career. New England used the former undrafted free agent all over the field, even giving him 12 carries, which he took for an impressive 125 yards. It is this type of versatility that Bourne will need to remain a stable contributor, with wide receiver DeVante Parker and rookie Tyquan Thornton now in the mix for targets. The Patriots have the fifth-fewest amount of vacated targets in the league heading into 2022, with two new receivers who are bound to see their fair share. After being the third read for Mac Jones last year, Bourne seems destined to move down in the pecking order behind Parker, Jakobi Meyers, and Hunter Henry. Unless an injury occurs, it leaves little room for consistent fantasy relevance for the underrated receiver. Determining how fantasy points will be divided in New England is tough enough, but now there are more mouths to feed than ever. Bourne is a name to watch on waivers if an injury occurs and little else.
