Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read about fantasy football players to consider dropping for Week 4:
MarShawn Lloyd, RB, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd rushed for 11 yards on four carries during Thursday's Week 3 loss against the Atlanta Falcons. He also caught two of his three targets for a modest seven receiving yards. Somehow, Lloyd's 11 rushing yards led the team, and his four carries tied with Chris Brooks for the team-high mark.
Green Bay's entire rushing attack was essentially nonexistent Thursday, which has become a similar theme for the Packers ever since Josh Jacobs was placed on the commissioner's exempt list. Lloyd has finished with single-digit fantasy points in all three games this year, including fewer than four points in two of those three. Any optimism that he might occupy a lead-back role in this backfield has faded away, as neither Lloyd nor Brooks is even worth starting in fantasy football.
The 25-year-old can be left on the bench heading into Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is a viable drop in shallower leagues.
Jonah Coleman, RB, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman (ankle) is being placed on short-term Injured Reserve with a high ankle sprain, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Coleman will now remain out through at least Week 6. Coleman got his first chance to contribute in Week 2 and performed well, recording 58 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in Denver's victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
While Coleman was a popular waiver wire pickup earlier this week, it appears fantasy managers will now have to wait for him to return from injury. In Coleman's absence, Broncos running backs J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey will likely handle the team's backfield workload. Coleman remains a worthy stash candidate in deeper leagues, but this is an obvious setback for his value in the first half of the season.
Brian Thomas Jr., WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. caught just one pass -- his only target of the day -- in a 35-6 win over the New England Patriots in Week 3. It was a disappointing day for Thomas' fantasy managers in a game that the Jaguars dominated. He played just 23 offensive snaps on Sunday, which was well behind Parker Washington (50) and Jakobi Meyers (50), while tying rookie Josh Cameron in reps.
Cameron caught a 12-yard touchdown pass, while Washington, Meyers, and tight end Brenton Strange all tallied at least three receptions. Through three games, Thomas has totaled seven receptions for 88 yards. He is yet to find the end zone. Thomas looks to bounce back in a Week 4 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Given his lack of production, Thomas is a must-bench in deeper leagues and is on the hot seat in shallower formats.
Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. had another incredibly frustrating performance in Week 3, catching just three of five targets for 40 yards against the San Francisco 49ers. This would be a fine stat line for a depth receiver, but Harrison was supposed to be the centerpiece of this offense after the Cardinals selected him fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Instead, he has consistently been out-produced by Trey McBride and Michael Wilson.
Harrison has looked uncompetitive and disengaged at times, sparking some chatter about a potential next chapter. While a trade would offer a change of scenery, the Cardinals don't seem quite ready to move on from Harrison. With that being said, fantasy managers are ready to make a change. Harrison can be sent to the bench in all standard fantasy leagues, and he should remain there until he proves that he can contribute in this offense on a consistent basis.
Those in shallower formats can cut ties with Harrison for a higher-upside option.
Tyler Allgeier, RB, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier took a clear back seat to Jeremiyah Love in Sunday's 36-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Allgeier carried twice for a loss of one yard and caught four passes for 10 yards, giving him six touches on the afternoon. Love handled 21 carries for 90 yards and added five catches for 19 yards and a touchdown, finishing with 26 touches. The difference was hard to miss after Arizona opened the season with a much more balanced split.
Allgeier had 19 touches to Love's 13 in Week 1, while Love held a 12-to-7 edge in Week 2. Sunday was different.
Love also played 56 offensive snaps compared with 31 for Allgeier, another sign that the rookie had moved to the front of the backfield for this game. It is still only one week, but Allgeier's usage Sunday looked much more like a clear No. 2 role than the near-even committee Arizona used to open the season. He is falling into handcuff territory, making him a viable drop in shallower leagues.
