Chris Clegg's Top 250 Fantasy Baseball Dynasty Rankings (May Updates)

Julio Rodriguez - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB DFS Picks, Betting Picks

Chris Clegg's updated top 250 fantasy baseball rankings for dynasty leagues (May 2024 update). Check out his latest dynasty rankings for fantasy baseball.

Welcome back RotoBallers to my top 250 dynasty fantasy baseball rankings, freshly updated for May 2024. It's been an exciting first few weeks of the 2024 MLB and fantasy baseball season, filled with lots of movement in our dynasty rankings. For those who are not familiar, I will be releasing monthly updates to my fantasy baseball dynasty rankings here on RotoBaller along with my notes on risers and fallers.

Both the minor leagues and MLB are well underway now, and it is a full go for the 2024 fantasy baseball season! The fun thing about dynasty is you can build your roster however you like. Whether prospect-laden or full of older MLB players in win-now mode, every team can be built differently, which makes the game so fun.

This specific set of rankings can be used for any fantasy format but is more geared toward standard 5x5 roto leagues. We hope that at RotoBaller, we can help you become a champion in both dynasty and redraft formats. You can find my top 250 rankings list here, but if you want the full top 1,000 lists for dynasty and prospects (yes, 1,000 prospects ranked for dynasty leagues), you can check out my website, The Dynasty Dugout.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Top Fantasy Baseball Risers

Tarik Skubal continues to pitch like an ace, currently rocking a 2.02 ERA through 49 innings this year with 60 strikeouts (31.6%) and just eight walks (4.2%). The fastball velocity remains up and his secondaries are missing bats at a high clip, including his changeup that has a 47.5 percent whiff rate. The slider, while just 31.9 percent whiff, still has looked quite strong and has given Skubal the look of a fantasy SP1. The gains made last season when he returned from injury have stuck, and Skubal looks dominant.

CJ Abrams tapped into more power this year after hitting 18 home runs last year while swiping 47 bases. I really doubted Abrams' power, and that was a big miss for me as I really thought the power last year was a mirage. I will eat those words and gladly move Abrams up my rankings. He looks legitimate and hits the ball consistently at ideal angles with an above-average barrel rate. Abrams does not even need to be a huge power threat, but if he can hit 20 home runs regularly, we are talking a first-round kind of fantasy asset.

James Wood looks like he might be the No. 1 prospect upon the graduation of several of the top prospects currently in the majors. Wood might even debut soon as he is tearing the cover off the ball and is now up to seven home runs to pair with nine stolen bases while slashing .346/.444/.581. Wood has cut his strikeout rate by over 10 percentage points and has shown improved contact against breaking balls, which he really struggled with last year.

Top Fantasy Baseball Fallers

Randy Arozarena has picked it up a bit in the month of May, but is still struggling a bit with the contact side of things as his zone contact is down nearly eight percentage points and the overall contact is down over six percentage points. Arozarena does have seven home runs and stolen bases apiece, which puts him on pace for nearly 25 of each this year, but the slash line sits at just .159/.262/.325.

Bo Bichette has declined a bit every year in the home run and stolen base department since his 2021 season, in which he hit 29 home runs and stole 25 bases. Despite entering the year with a career .300 batting average, Bichette is slashing just .218/.275/.306 at the moment and has just two home runs on the season. His barrel rate is sitting at 3.3 percent, which is among the worst in the league. While the contact rates have improved, the quality of that contact has not. Better days should be ahead for Bichette, but the performance has been concerning to this point.

Joe Musgrove was one of the more steady arms in the game since 2021 but really struggled with performance this year before landing on the IL with right elbow inflammation. He was getting hit quite hard and had allowed 10 home runs in eight starts so far this year. If the performance was injury-related, it makes a little more sense, especially with his velocity being down. Regardless, injury and performance issues are a bit concerning for Musgrove for dynasty purposes, making him a faller on the list.
