Dan Stephens

753 articles

A San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan for life, Dan's earliest sports memories include getting rocked by the Loma Prieta earthquake while tuning in to Game 3 of the 1989 World Series and Joe Montana's rout of the Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV. Dan's interest in fantasy sports started with the franchise and front office modes that began appearing in sports video games in the '90s. His first foray into actual fantasy football and baseball leagues came around 1997. Dan made the jump from playing fantasy sports to writing about them in 2023. With over 20 years of experience playing fantasy football, one of Dan's biggest lessons learned is to stay on top of player utilization trends. He enjoys sharing his findings in his weekly "Warning Signals" column, published every Thursday. In 2025, he is also proud to be penning the fantasy outlooks for his hometown 49ers. You can reach Dan on X (@danifestmestiny) or Bluesky (@danifestmestiny.bsky.social) to discuss fantasy football starts/sits, the 49ers, and all things fantasy baseball.

Jake Tonges Uninvolved Upon Return Of Kittle

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges saw just seven snaps in the team's 20-10 win on Sunday Night Football in Week 7. With George Kittle (hamstring) back from injured reserve, the former All-Pro reclaimed his spot at the top of the depth chart, and Tonges fell to third in the pecking order behind Luke […]

George Kittle Posts Goose Egg in Return From Injured Reserve

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (hamstring) returned from injured reserve in time for the team's 20-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7. To the dismay of fantasy football managers awaiting his return, Kittle finished the game with zero receptions and saw only two targets. If there is a silver lining, it […]

Fantasy Football Warning Signals for Week 7? Tony Pollard, Michael Carter, Kendrick Bourne, T.J. Hockenson

Hello, RotoBallers, and welcome to the latest installment of my Warning Signals column. Each week, I’m on the lookout for the players set to spoil your upcoming fantasy football matchups. Whether it’s a poor matchup, an injury to a key teammate, or a downturn in playing time, I want you to see the warning signals […]

Is Marquez Valdes-Scantling the 49ers' New Slot Receiver Amid Injuries?

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling pulled in two of his three targets for 22 receiving yards in Week 6. While his stat line may not have been impressive, his utilization was notable. Even with Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) returning to action, Valdes-Scantling saw the third-highest snap share among San Francisco's wide receivers for […]

Brian Robinson Jr. Unproductive But Worth Stashing

San Francisco 49ers running back Brian Robinson Jr. didn't handle any carries in the team's Week 6 loss to the Buccaneers, but he did pull in three catches on three targets for eight yards. Robinson has provided very little in terms of fantasy production in 2025, with 108 rushing yards on 27 attempts thus far. […]

Demarcus Robinson Takes Step Back With Jauan Jennings In Lineup

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson caught two of his three targets for 44 yards in the team's 30-19 loss to the Buccaneers in Week 6. With Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) back in action, Robinson's involvement took a big step back from Week 5, when he actually saw more snaps than Kendrick Bourne did […]

Mac Jones Dealt First Loss Of 2025

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones was handed his first loss of 2025 when the team stumbled against the Buccaneers in Week 6. Jones went 27-for-39 for 347 yards in the game, with two interceptions. It was his first start in 2025 without a touchdown, as well. Jones is now 3-1 while standing in for […]

Eddy Pineiro Proving To Be A Reliable Option

San Francisco 49ers kicker Eddy Pineiro nailed his second game-winning kick in three weeks in Week 5. Pineiro's 59-yarder, a new career-best, sealed the 49ers' 26-23 win over the Rams in overtime. He also converted two extra points and hit three other field goals in regulation from 20, 37, and 41 yards out, making him […]

Jake Tonges a Touchdown-Dependent TE2 in Week 6

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges tied wide receiver Kendrick Bourne for a team-high 11 targets in Week 5. Tonges turned his looks into seven catches for 41 yards and a touchdown in San Francisco's 26-23 win over the Rams. The tight end was afforded extra opportunities with Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings […]

Demarcus Robinson Could See More Involvement With Teammates Injured

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson's three catches for 39 yards in Week 5 belied his utilization in the team's 26-23 win over the Rams. Robinson saw seven targets and ran 39 routes, one more than the game's leading receiver, Kendrick Bourne. Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) were both absent from […]

Kendrick Bourne Set For Another Start

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne set a new career-high in receiving yards in Week 5. With Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) out of the picture due to injuries, Bourne caught 10 of his 11 targets for 142 yards in the 49ers' 26-23 win over the Rams. Pearsall has already been […]

Jauan Jennings A Dicey Start Given Week 6 Status

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) is listed as questionable on the team's final depth chart for Week 6. According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com, Jennings can be considered a game-time decision. With the 49ers' kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday, fantasy managers considering starting Jennings will be limited on […]

Brian Robinson Jr. No More Than A Handcuff

San Francisco 49ers running back Brian Robinson Jr. has been unable to produce much of anything in the team's Christian McCaffrey-powered offense. Injuries to starters Brock Purdy (toe), Ricky Pearsall (knee), Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs), and George Kittle (hamstring) have led to McCaffrey seeing snap shares north of 85% in each of the last three […]

Another Heavy Dose Of Christian McCaffrey On Tap For Week 6

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey handled 22 carries and caught eight passes for 139 total scrimmage yards in the Niners' 26-23 win over the Rams in Week 5. He is up to five consecutive top-12 finishes among running backs to start the season and leads the league with 130 touches. San Francisco's offense […]

Adrian Martinez Could Start If Mac Jones has a Setback

As the San Francisco 49ers' only healthy quarterback, Adrian Martinez could see his first regular season snaps in the NFL on Sunday. Brock Purdy (toe) will be shelved for a fourth game thanks to his ongoing bout with turf toe, and backup Mac Jones (knee, oblique) is listed as questionable for Week 6 with injuries […]

Mac Jones In Line For Fourth Start

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) is expected to draw his fourth start of the season with Brock Purdy (toe) declared out. Jones himself is tagged as questionable on the team's final injury report for Week 6, but the team feels "pretty good about where he's going to be at," according to general […]

Fantasy Football Warning Signals for Week 6? RJ Harvey, Jaylen Warren, Marvin Harrison Jr., more

Hello again, RotoBallers, and welcome back to the latest addition of my Warning Signals column. Ever the pessimist when it comes to fantasy football, I’m always on the lookout for the next players destined to betray my efforts to secure a win in the coming week. In Week 6, I’m betting against rebound games for […]

When Will George Kittle Return and Be Back? Fantasy Football Injury Update for Week 6 (2025)

After another productive season in San Francisco, George Kittle was one of the first tight ends off the board in fantasy football drafts in 2025. With the 49ers losing wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (via trade to the Washington Commanders) and Brandon Aiyuk's (knee) return date uncertain, Kittle had a clear runway to take off […]

Mike Evans - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

When Will Mike Evans Return and Be Back? Fantasy Football Injury Update for Week 6 (2025)

In 2024, Mike Evans logged his eleventh straight 1,000-yard season, going back to his rookie year in 2014. A model of consistency, Evans was a highly sought-after commodity in fantasy football drafts, pursued to an ADP of 34.9 with the expectation that another productive season was in store for the Buccaneers receiver. Unfortunately, those expectations […]

Chase Brown - Fantasy Football Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

Time to Drop Chase Brown? Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire Outlook (2025)

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown has been a massive disappointment in fantasy football so far in 2025. His 2024 breakout, combined with his bellcow status, pushed him up draft boards to an ADP of 22.9 before the season began.  So far, fantasy football managers have not gotten their anticipated return on investment. Through five […]

Jordan Watkins On The Mend?

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jordan Watkins (calf) was seen running on a side field at the team's first practice of the week on Monday. The rookie's NFL debut has been delayed, first by a preseason high ankle sprain and more recently by a calf injury. In Week 2, he was cleared to play but […]

Demarcus Robinson Fails To Produce Despite Strong Presence In Week 5

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson came out of last Thursday's 26-23 win over the Rams with just three receptions for 39 yards on seven targets. Despite the lackluster box score against his former team, Robinson led the team in routes run and air yards, and was second only to running back Christian McCaffrey […]

Could Jake Tonges Repeat In Week 6?

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges came up big in Week 5, tying Kendrick Bourne for a team-high 11 targets and securing seven receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown. The score was his third trip to the end zone since taking over for George Kittle (hamstring) as the team's primary receiving tight end. […]

Another Big Game In Store For Kendrick Bourne?

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne saw his utilization surge in the absence of Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) during Week 5. Bourne was tied with tight end Jake Tonges for 11 targets and led the team with 10 receptions and 142 receiving yards. On Monday, Pearsall was not seen at […]

Fantasy Football Warning Signals for Week 5? Isiah Pacheco, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Khalil Shakir, more

Another week of fantasy football is in the books, and the next one is getting underway, so it is time to assess options and get those lineups set for Week 5. Determining which of your players might be set up for a bust week is an important first step in deciding who will start in […]

Isiah Pacheco - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Running Backs

Chris Rodriguez Jr., Isiah Pacheco, Bhayshul Tuten: Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Picks for Fantasy Football Week 5

Week 5 is upon us, and with roughly one-fourth of the season in the books, we can make some more informed decisions on who belongs in our fantasy football lineups. This is the first week where bye weeks are a factor, reducing the field of available players. Even with a shallower pool to select from, […]

Eddy Pineiro A Dependable Floor Play In Week 5

San Francisco 49ers kicker Eddy Pineiro recovered well from his introduction to the team back in Week 2. In his first scoring opportunity after replacing the volatile Jake Moody, Pineiro hooked an extra point attempt. He has since made each of his subsequent tries - four extra points, and seven field goals, one of which […]

Jake Tonges A Low-End TE2 In Week 5

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges has emerged as the team's preferred pass-catcher at the position in the absence of George Kittle (hamstring). Through four weeks, Tonges has the edge on Luke Farrell in targets (16 to six) and has run nearly twice as many routes (96 to 52). Quarterback Brock Purdy (toe), who […]

Jordan Watkins Ruled Out For Week 5

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jordan Watkins (calf) has been ruled out for their Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Watkins, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the preseason, has yet to make his regular-season debut. Watkins had been cleared to play in Week 2, but was ultimately a healthy scratch from […]

Kendrick Bourne To Resume Starting Role In Week 5

In Week 5, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne will once again ascend to the top of the depth chart thanks to injuries to both Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (ankle/ribs). Bourne started alongside Pearsall in Jennings' absence in Week 3, and came away with four catches and 38 yards on six targets. […]
