Week 4 Outlooks for Fantasy Football
Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz came back to earth after a massive Week 2, and he could be in for a smaller workload in Week 4 against the Cowboys since Nico Collins will be back from his injury. In Week 2, Schultz went off for 140 receiving yards on 12 catches without Collins, but last week, he only had 30 yards on three catches against the Colts.
With Collins back to take targets as well, Schultz will still be a PPR option, but his limited workload keeps him just outside the top 10 at the position. Schultz still has PPR upside as one of the top targets for C.J. Stroud in Houston's offense, but this week he's only the No. 14 TE in RotoBaller's rankings, making him a borderline starter in most leagues this week against the Cowboys, who have allowed the eighth-most fantasy points in the NFL to the position through the first three weeks of the season.
Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley hasn't found the end zone yet this season and has been targeted just six times through three games -- he hauled in three of those passes for a massive six yards. That's got him ranked as the RB33 overall in fantasy football through three games, which is a clip that seems impossible. But the Eagles offensive line has taken multiple huge steps back since Barkley's insane 2024 season.
He's averaging over five yards per carry, but the lack of a receiving role and inability to score so far has made that a moot point.
Week 4 might not see things get much better, as the Eagles will face the Los Angeles Rams, who have an explosive passing offense. They'll likely be able to run up the score, preventing the Eagles from relying heavily on the run game and forcing them into a pass-heavy game script. Barkley has not been start-worthy through three games, as he has just single-digit PPR fantasy points in each, though you have to think he has upside for more.
He's a startable player as a low-end RB2 for now, but fantasy managers are understandably nervous about his potential to be a league-losing draft pick.
Josh Downs, Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has settled into a larger role in his team's offense after the injury to Colts WR1, Alec Pierce (heel). Pierce will miss at least three more weeks after re-aggravating the heel injury in the leg he had surgery on in the offseason. Downs was targeted a season-high 11 times in Week 3, which was his most volume in a game since 2024. He caught five of those passes for 77 yards.
The Commanders have a soft pass defense, which should be a good matchup for Downs on paper, though they tend to be leakier against outside receivers than those in the slot. His diminutive size keeps him in the slot mostly, but he's been one of the NFL's best separators and has averaged 13.3 yards per catch, a healthy clip considering his best capability is his short-area route running. Downs is in WR3/flex territory for this matchup, and is worth a start in 12-team full-PPR leagues for Week 4.
Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy completed just 15 passes (out of 27 attempts) in Week 3, but he passed for a season-high 297 yards and four touchdowns in the team's 36-30 win over the Cardinals. Purdy is now up to 789 yards on the season, has a 72.3% completion percentage, and a league-leading nine passing touchdowns. Purdy may be without Mike Evans (ribs) in San Francisco's upcoming matchup with the Broncos, as the wide receiver is managing a rib injury sustained last weekend and will be a game-time decision on Sunday.
Even without Evans, Purdy should remain an effective fantasy option, as he will still have Deebo Samuel Sr., George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey at his disposal. Last week, Denver surrendered 390 passing yards and two touchdowns to Matt Stafford. Purdy is the overall QB2 after three weeks and projects as a top-five option in Week 4.
