New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo rushed 19 times for 98 yards and three touchdowns during Thursday's upset victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. He also caught each of his two targets, totaling 12 receiving yards. The rookie held onto his lead-back role despite Tyrone Tracy Jr. (shoulder) returning to action. Between his large volume, high efficiency, and nose for the end zone, Skattebo has proven that he deserves to be the bell-cow running back in New York. He has established himself as a potential fantasy football league-winner and should rank as a fringe top-12 running back against the Broncos in Week 7.--Andersen Pickard

Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt (undisclosed) has been downgraded from probable to doubtful for Saturday's Big 12 matchup against Utah, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. The redshirt sophomore is banged up following the bye week, and it appears the well-traveled veteran, Jeffs Sims, is in line for his first start for the Sun Devils this season. Sims spent three years at Georgia Tech and one year at Nebraska before transferring to Arizona State in 2024. Overall, he has tallied 4,914 passing yards, 1,464 rushing yards, and 42 total touchdowns in 36 career games. With Leavitt likely out of the lineup, Utah should be considered a heavier favorite to take home the victory in Week 7.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) was limited in practice for the second straight day this week on Thursday, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. Watson practiced for the first time this year on Wednesday after recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in the Week 18 regular-season finale late last year. The Packers now have 21 days to officially activate the 26-year-old from the Physically Unable to Perform list. While Watson continues to make good progress, the Packers could exercise caution and continue to ease him into practices. Don't be surprised if he is held out of the Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. When Watson eventually returns, he'll likely be eased in as an explosive deep threat for quarterback Jordan Love. He deserves to be stashed in most fantasy leagues, but it could prove difficult to stand out in Green Bay's deep receiving corps, even with Jayden Reed (collarbone, foot) on Injured Reserve.--Keith Hernandez

Washington Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. (calf) was a notable addition to the team's Week 6 injury report due to a calf injury that kept him from taking part in the first practice of the week on Thursday. Rodriguez still has a couple of days to return to practice, but this puts his availability for Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears in question. If the 25-year-old cannot play this week, rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt could have a second straight heavy-volume day in the backfield. The Commanders had been using a committee backfield approach with Rodriguez, Croskey-Merritt, and Jeremy McNichols until the rookie took a season-high 14 carries for his first career 100-yard rushing day and two touchdowns in last week's win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Rodriguez has seen his usage drop, going from 11 carries in his season debut in Week 3 against the Raiders to five carries on Sunday for just five yards.--Keith Hernandez

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver KaVontae Turpin (foot) missed another day of practice this week on Thursday, making it more unlikely that he'll return for the team's Week 6 contest on the road against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Turpin injured his foot in the Week 4 tie with the Green Bay Packers and has not practiced or played since. The 29-year-old will need to get back on the practice field on Friday to have a shot at suiting up this weekend, but he has already said that he doesn't expect to be out there. Turpin has taken on a bigger role on offense this year in addition to his kick-return duties, but it has only amounted to 11 catches on 13 targets for 159 yards and one touchdown in four games. He's merely a bench stash in 14-plus-team leagues. With CeeDee Lamb (ankle) likely out another game as well, George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert, and Ryan Flournoy figure to operate in starting three-wide sets on Sunday.--Keith Hernandez

Dallas Cowboys running back Miles Sanders (ankle, knee) is firmly in danger of missing a second straight game in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday after he was downgraded to a non-participant in Thursday's practice. Sanders was limited in practice on Wednesday, so he's going in the wrong direction to be available this weekend after missing his first game of the year in the Week 5 win over the New York Jets with ankle and knee injuries. Javonte Williams has earned the workhorse RB role in Dallas with a strong start to the 2025 season, so Sanders has been the change-of-pace option behind him through four games played. If Sanders is forced to miss a second straight game, rookie Jaydon Blue would be active for just the second time this season. Blue only saw four carries for seven yards last week and wasn't targeted in the passing game. He may have a bigger role in Week 6 behind Williams if Sanders is out again, but it won't be enough to justify using him as a flex play in deep fantasy leagues.--Keith Hernandez

Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer (hand) was upgraded to probable on Thursday night's SEC injury report. Mateer missed Oklahoma's last game against Kent State because of hand surgery on September 17. Mateer's original timetable for a return was three to four weeks. He will return to action for Saturday's Red River Shootout in Dallas just 17 days after the surgery. The return of Mateer gives the Oklahoma offense more spark. He has completed 95 of 141 passes for 1,215 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. Mateer is also dangerous on the ground, rushing for 190 yards and five touchdowns on 43 attempts so far in 2025.--Mike Marteny - RotoBaller

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter (heel) has been ruled out for the Week 6 game on Thursday night against the division-rival New York Giants, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. With Carter sidelined, it will be a boost for the Giants' ground game and running backs Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. It's also a pretty big downgrade for the interior of Philly's defensive line, but their defense/special teams should still be considered a must-start on a short week against a New York offense with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart leading the offense in only his third NFL game. With the 24-year-old Carter out of action on Thursday, expect to see more of veteran Za'Darius Smith and Byron Young for the Eagles' defense at MetLife Stadium.--Keith Hernandez

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip, thumb) upgraded to a full participant in Thursday's practice, according to David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Tagovailoa came into the week nursing hip and thumb ailments and was limited on Wednesday. The 27-year-old's thumb injury is on his throwing hand, but it didn't appear to hinder him at all while throwing passes on Thursday. Tua's injuries are something to watch heading into Sunday's game at Hard Rock Stadium against the visiting Los Angeles Chargers, but they won't be something that keeps him from playing this weekend. Tagovailoa has looked better in recent weeks after a slow start, but losing top wideout Tyreek Hill (knee) for the year isn't going to help matters the rest of the way. Fantasy managers will want to consider him a low-end QB2 for a tough matchup against the Chargers defense as the club looks to put an end to a two-game losing streak.--Keith Hernandez

Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe (hip) was unable to practice with the team on Thursday due to left-hip soreness. The No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft has an extremely high ceiling and should be poised for a big role for the Sixers this year, if he can stay healthy. The Sixers have had awful injury issues the last few years, so Edgecombe's missing practice hopefully doesn't continue that trend. He has looked very strong when healthy, and he'll be a great sleeper in all formats if he's able to be healthy when the Sixers start the season on October 22 against the Celtics in Boston.--Zach Thompson

Memphis Grizzlies guard Jaylen Wells flashed some upside and a high ceiling in a few games during his rookie year, including a 30-point outburst in his first game of 2025. Overall, he only averaged 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 25.9 minutes per game while starting 74 of his 79 games and serving mostly as a defensive specialist. However, he is expected to take on a much more involved role in the offense in his second year in the NBA, after the team traded Desmond Bane to Orlando. On Wednesday against the Celtics, Wells had a team-high 21 points in the Grizzlies' second exhibition game this preseason, and he only needed nine shots from the field. Grizzlies Coach Tuomas Iisalo said Wells will be asked to be a secondary playmaker in the offense, and so far, Wells seems to be doing a good job with his expanded role. While there may be some bumps along the road, an expanded role could set Wells up for a breakout season in Memphis.--Zach Thompson

Brooklyn Nets forward Drake Powell (knee) appears to be in line for his Nets' preseason debut on Friday against the Suns. The Nets listed only Egor Demin (foot) and Haywood Highsmith (knee) as out for the exhibition game, leaving Powell potentially available. The No. 22 overall pick in the NBA Draft last June, Powell was traded from the Hawks to the Nets on Draft night. Powell profiles to be a potential "three-and-D" option on the wing for the Nets after showing off his pure athleticism and strong three-point shooting at North Carolina last year. He has the raw tools to be an elite defender and solid shooter, but his role is uncertain since he has yet to take the court for Brooklyn due to knee tendonopathy. Fantasy managers will want to pay close attention to Powell's debut and role coming into the season, especially if you're playing in a dynasty format.--Zach Thompson

Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin (foot) will not be available for Friday's exhibition game against the Suns. Demin is dealing with a plantar fascia tear and has not been cleared for contact in practice. The No. 8 overall pick in the NBA Draft last year could be lined up for a big role with the Nets when he's healthy, but it isn't clear when he'll be ready to take the court. Earlier this week, General Manager Sean Marks said that the expectation is that Demin will be ready to go by opening night. For now, Ben Saraf and Nolan Traore should get more opportunities in the preseason. Saraf started the Nets' first exhibition game and will likely get the nod again on Friday--Zach Thompson

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (ankle) missed another day of practice this week on Thursday. Lamb has made progress from a high-ankle sprain that has kept him sidelined for each of the last two games, but he's not on track to make his return in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. Per Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News, the 26-year-old Pro Bowler continues to focus on conditioning and resistance training before he can think about getting back on the field. Lamb has not officially been ruled out for the weekend in Carolina, but that is likely coming on Friday. Fantasy managers can only hope that Lamb will make more progress next week and return to face the division-rival Washington Commanders in Week 7. George Pickens will continue to operate as the WR1 in Dallas if Lamb misses another game, with tight end Jake Ferguson also seeing a heavy target share. Jalen Tolbert and Ryan Flournoy will battle for the WR2 role if KaVontae Turpin (foot) misses a second straight game.--Keith Hernandez

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers (knee) is missing his fourth straight practice on Thursday, according to Ryan McFadden of ESPN. "We're hopeful we'll get Brock back soon. He's working his tail off in the rehab process, so we'll see how that goes," said offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. Bowers missed practice last Thursday and Friday before missing his first game of his career in the Week 5 blowout loss to the Indianapolis Colts. With two straight DNPs to begin this week, it's looking likely that the second-year tight end will miss a second straight contest this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, unless he's able to practice on Friday. The 22-year-old's injury stems from when he injured his knee back in Week 1. The good news for the Raiders is that if Bowers sits out in Week 6, they should be getting Michael Mayer back after he cleared the NFL's concussion protocol this week. Mayer could be worth TE2 streaming consideration in deeper leagues if Bowers is inactive again.--Keith Hernandez

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Joe Ingles (groin) has been diagnosed with a left groin strain and will be re-evaluated in one week. Ingles re-signed with the Wolves as a veteran depth option again this season, agreeing to a one-year, $3.6 million contract with the Timberwolves. He doesn't usually play significant rotation minutes during the season, but his absence for the next week could open up more playing time for other players battling for roster spots and playing time. Terrence Shannon Jr., Jaylen Clark, and Leonard Miller are a few of the other forwards who could get more time without Ingles available.--Zach Thompson

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry has been named the starter for Thursday's clash against the New York Islanders. This will be his first appearance of the season after Pittsburgh went with Arturs Silovs on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers. Silovs bagged a 25-save shutout in a 3-0 win, putting pressure on Jarry to perform well. It's been a rollercoaster for Jarry in Pittsburgh in recent years, and he was even forced to spend some time in the minors last season when the team waived him. Jarry finished the season in the NHL with a 16-12-6 record, a 3.09 goals-against average, a .893 save percentage, and two shutouts. The former All-Star definitely needs to improve his form this season if he wants to reclaim his spot as the Penguins' undisputed starter.--Taavi Pailk

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) was in uniform again for Thursday's practice, but he didn't do much throwing during individual periods in the early portion that was open to the media, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. Wagoner added that Jones really didn't do anything behind soft tossing on Thursday. The 27-year-old came out of last Thursday night's upset win over the Los Angeles Rams pretty banged up, but the Niners think he should be OK to make a fourth start in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brock Purdy (toe) has yet to practice this week and looks to be on track to miss his fourth game of the year after aggravating his turf-toe injury in Week 4. Jones will likely be listed as limited in practice for the second straight day, but he should be good to go this weekend. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect an encore against Tampa after Jones cooked against L.A.'s defense in Week 5.--Keith Hernandez

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov (undisclosed) won't dress for Thursday's meeting with the New Jersey Devils. According to Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour, Kochetkov is "nicked up" and will be re-evaluated on Friday. His absence gives Brandon Bussi the backup job on Thursday night. Carolina picked up Bussi off waivers on Oct. 5. The 27-year-old has yet to play in the NHL. Given Bussi's lack of experience, it will be crucial for the team that Frederik Andersen stays healthy. The Danish veteran has made only 38 starts over the past two seasons.--Taavi Pailk

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (back) will miss the start of the NBA regular season while dealing with sciatica, which is pain that originates in the spine and radiates down the back of his right leg. The 40-year-old James has been unable to participate in training camp due to what Lakers coach JJ Redick described as nerve irritation in his glute. It's unclear if this is the same issue or a different problem trying to slow down the 21-time All-Star. James played 70 regular-season games last year, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game. He helped the Lakers to the playoffs, where they lost to the Timberwolves in five games in the first round. With James on the sidelines to start the season, Austin Reaves' fantasy value gets a boost. Luka Doncic will also carry more of the load for the Lakers, but he's already a top option in all formats, so LeBron's absence doesn't impact his fantasy value as much as Reaves', but it should boost his usage. James' recovery and season debut will be a key storyline to watch early in the year since the Lakers are so reliant on the veteran in every facet of the game.--Zach Thompson

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) was in uniform and taking part on Thursday in the portion of practice open to the media, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said before Thursday's practice that Jennings might be limited on Thursday before returning to play on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. Jennings did not play in last Thursday night's win over the Los Angeles Rams and didn't take part in practice on Wednesday. The 28-year-old's status for this weekend is still up in the air, but he appears closer to playing against the Bucs than fellow wideout Ricky Pearsall (knee), who hasn't practiced at all this week. If Jennings is active in Week 6, he figures to operate as San Fran's No. 1 wideout, assuming he's not limited at all by his injuries. However, Jennings could be taking passes from backup quarterback Mac Jones again, which would make him an even more shaky flex play in fantasy.--Keith Hernandez

Columbus Blue Jackets winger Yegor Chinakhov will be in the press box on Thursday when the team begins its 2025-26 season with a road contest against the Nashville Predators. After requesting a trade during the offseason, it seems Chinakhov isn't part of the team's plans. However, Columbus has yet to find a suitable deal, leaving the Russian forward in limbo. Chinakhov played in 30 games last term, posting seven goals and 15 points. These may end up being his final appearances for the team. With Chinakhov seemingly in head coach Dave Evason's doghouse, Cole Sillinger has gotten an opportunity to start the season in a top-six role.--Taavi Pailk

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee) did not practice with the rest of the team for the second straight day this week on Thursday, according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. Instead, Pearsall was doing conditioning on a side field with a support sleeve on his right leg. The 25-year-old second-year pass-catcher suffered a PCL injury in the Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and was held out of the Week 5 win over the Los Angeles Rams last Thursday night. He has not given up hope yet of playing this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it's not looking good for his chances right now. The Niners also were without Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) a week ago, which led to Kendrick Bourne having a career day as quarterback Mac Jones' top target. Jennings has a better shot at returning this weekend, but if Pearsall misses another game, Bourne could be in line for another big day.--Keith Hernandez

For the second straight day of practice this week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) did not practice with the rest of the team, according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. However, Purdy was seen doing conditioning on a side field in cleats. While it's good to see Purdy doing something on a side field, a second straight DNP this week is making it likely that he is going to miss a second straight game and fourth of the season after aggravating his turf-toe injury in his return in Week 4. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect the 25-year-old to play in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it's possible he won't be ready for Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons, either. Mac Jones (knee) has been playing at less than 100%, but he torched the Rams' defense in a win last Thursday night and looks set for his fourth start of the year on Sunday.--Keith Hernandez

Pittsburgh Penguins right wing Bryan Rust (lower body) will miss Thursday's matchup against the New York Islanders. The American veteran participated in the morning skate but isn't yet ready for game action. At the start of the month, the Penguins announced that Rust must sit out a minimum of two weeks with a lower-body injury, so his return should be near. In Rust's absence, rookie Ville Koivunen has earned a chance to start the season on the first line next to Sidney Crosby, while Justin Brazeau is also filling a top-six role. The latter scored twice as Pittsburgh opened its campaign with a 3-0 victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.--Taavi Pailk

Minnesota Wild center Nico Sturm (back) has been ruled out for 6-8 weeks. The German veteran aggravated a back injury in the team's preseason finale and must now wait until at least late November for his first regular-season appearance. Sturm is expected to undergo a back procedure. With him on the shelf, the Wild have to do without a battle-tested bottom-six forward. While Strum has never been much of a fantasy asset, he has won two Stanley Cups during his career. In 2024-25, Sturm tallied 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 62 regular-season outings with the San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers.--Taavi Pailk

Utah Mammoth center Barrett Hayton (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup on Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche. The 25-year-old has been ruled out for Utah's season opener after being labeled day-to-day earlier in the week. Hayton's next opportunity to play will be on Saturday against the Nashville Predators. Utah's attack will also be missing Alex Kerfoot (lower body) and Liam O'Brien (lower body) on Thursday night, and Mammoth head coach Andre Tourigny has decided to go with seven defensemen for the contest. Jack McBain, Logan Cooley, and Kevin Stenlund will carry heavy loads as centers.--Taavi Pailk

Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed reliever Tanner Scott (lower body) was removed from the team's roster during the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies after having a lower-body abscess procedure, according to manager Dave Roberts. Scott, who had not appeared out of L.A.'s bullpen at all during the postseason, will be replaced on the roster by Justin Wrobleski. Roberts did not rule out Scott's availability if the Dodgers advance to a second straight World Series. Given Scott's struggles at the back end of the bullpen in his first year with the team in 2025, it's probably unlikely that he 31-year-old southpaw would be back on the World Series roster if they advance. Scott went 1-4 during the regular season with an elevated 4.74 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 23 saves, and 60 K's in 57 innings. Rookie right-hander Roki Sasaki saved the first two wins in the series against Philly and is now the favorite for saves the rest of the playoffs.--Keith Hernandez

Winnipeg Jets center Jonathan Toews (undisclosed) is available to make his team debut on Thursday against the Dallas Stars. He was initially iffy for Winnipeg's season opener after the team placed Toews on Injured Reserve at the beginning of the week. Toews last skated in an NHL regular-season contest in April 2023. He will make his comeback as the Jets' second-line center, flanked by Gustav Nyquist and Nikita Chibrikov. During his last season in the league, Toews amassed 15 goals and 31 points in 53 games. The three-time Stanley Cup winner could be a steal for the Jets if he manages similar productivity this season.--Taavi Pailk

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (wrist) practiced in full on Thursday after missing the team's Wednesday practice due to a wrist injury. The 25-year-old appears to be trending towards being available to play in Week 6 against the Kansas City Chiefs. St. Brown is the unquestioned number one option in the passing game for Detroit with 35 catches for 407 yards and six touchdowns on 41 targets through five games this season. If things were to reverse course and St. Brown were to miss time, Lions wideouts Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa would likely see an uptick in target share, as would tight end Sam LaPorta and running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Assuming St. Brown can play on Sunday, he profiles as a must-start fantasy wide receiver in Week 6 against Kansas City.--Will Brady
