John Mateer Officially Questionable Ahead of Saturday's Game vs. Texas
The first SEC injury report lists Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer (hand) as questionable to play against Texas. Mateer underwent hand surgery on September 24, with recovery time initially listed as 3-4 weeks. Mateer's hand has healed well, leading to speculation that he would be able to play in the Red River Shootout against unranked Texas at the Texas State Fair in Dallas on Saturday. That is just 17 days after the surgery. Mateer's questionable status is not a guarantee that he will play, but it does mean that he is available should Oklahoma choose to use him. Betting lines open with Texas as a 3.5-point favorite, but they flipped to Oklahoma early Wednesday afternoon, further fueling the speculation that Mateer will be available. Oklahoma is required to issue another availability report 90 minutes before the 3:30 p.m. Eastern kickoff on Saturday afternoon.
