UAB Fires Head Coach Trent Dilfer After 2.5 Seasons In Birmingham
The UAB Blazers have fired head coach Trent Dilfer after 2.5 seasons. Dilfer ends his tenure as the head coach of the Blazers with a 9-21 record. UAB lost its third straight game on Saturday, 53-33, to Florida Atlantic. Offensive Coordinator Alex Mortensen will take over as the interim coach for UAB. Dilfer spent 14 seasons in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. UAB was his first coaching job at the FBS level. Mortensen coached at Division II New Mexico Highlands in 2012. He also served as a graduate assistant at Alabama and was the wide receivers coach for the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football before joining Dilfer's staff at UAB in 2022.
