Max Stassi To Be Everyday Catcher After Brian McCann Injury
6 years agoHouston Astros catcher Max Stassi will take over the full-time catching duties for at least the next month after news broke that veteran Brian McCann will have knee surgery. Stassi (141 at-bats) had been in a timeshare with McCann (155 at-bats) to this point in the season but the young backstop will now get a longer look. Stassi has shown spurts of offensive production at times but is currently in a 3-for-19 slump. Stassi enjoyed an excellent month of May, hitting .340 with three home runs, six doubles and an impressive OPS of 1.017. He came crashing back to earth in June but flashed what he is capable of at the plate. It is tough to forecast how consistent Stassi can be with everyday at-bats, but he is a player worth monitoring in fantasy with an increase in playing time moving forward.
