Chase Elliott's Recent Speed Downturn Could Continue at Loudon
Although Chase Elliott stumbled his way into the Round of 12 in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, he's going to need to do a lot more than that to make it to the next round. That might be difficult since he's starting 27th (by far the worst of the remaining playaoff drivers) at a track where it is notoriously difficult to pass. He'll almost certainly finish better than that - he typically does - but although he leads most races and led 41 laps from the pole last year, he's only actually finished better than 9th twice, which is unusual for him. Hendrick Motorsports has had shaky speed lately on short superspeedways with their recent Gateway runs and their miserable Southern 500, so Elliott might be slower than you think today (especially ranking only 20th in practice), but you still have to consider it.
