Chase Elliott of Hendrick Motorsports collected a finish of fifth in Sunday's Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway after a hard-fought day. Most of Elliott's difficulties today with getting to the top five had to do with starting the race from the 27th position. He slowly worked his way through the field over the course of the entire race while also nabbing positions on track, through restarts, and through fast pit stops with great execution. By the end of the first stage, Elliott made it up to 16th, failing to gather stage points. The second stage was where Elliott got stage points as he made it up to the top 10 and placed seventh at the end of the stage. In the final stage, Elliott ran inside the top five and briefly held the lead during a sequence of green flag pit stops. Ultimately, he maintained a top-5 position through the rest of the race and finished in fifth place, scoring his third top-5 of his Cup career at New Hampshire. Elliott's top-5 run now puts him 14 points above the playoff cut line with two races remaining in the Round of 12 in the playoffs.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
