Ross Chastain Loses Ground in Playoff Race Despite Top-10 Finish
Although Ross Chastain started eighth and finished ninth in Sunday's Loudon race, he lost ground in the NASCAR playoff race as Joey Logano dominated the first half of the race from the pole and scored 19 stage points, while Chastain failed to score points in either stage. After finishing 12th in Stage 1, he fell as low as 20th in Stage 2 before making some progress by avoiding attrition in that stage and taking two tires on a mid-race pit stop. At the start of Stage 3, he re-entered the top 10 and remained there for the rest of the race, but Logano's hefty points payday and Chastain's lack of playoff points this season caused Chastain to fall 12 points below the playoff cut line in ninth.
