Time to Drop Jordan Mason? Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver Wire Outlook (2025)

Jordan Mason - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, Draft Sleepers, Draft Rankings

Should I drop Jordan Mason for fantasy football Week 9? Is Jordan Mason a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason likely lost plenty of fantasy managers their matchups in Week 8. In an absolute dud against the Los Angeles Chargers, he only scored 1.6 PPR fantasy points.

It was befuddling. The Chargers have been demolished by plenty of running backs this season, and it seemed like Mason would have big role on the offense and succeed in kind. But that didn't happen.

Minnesota's offense appears to be stagnating, and the return of quarterback J.J. McCarthy (ankle) from injury might not help much. So is Mason droppable in fantasy leagues now?

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Should I Drop Jordan Mason in Fantasy Football?

It depends on your league size. In leagues with 12 or more teams, or with deep starting lineups and benches, it's probably better to hold on to him for now. He's had some highly productive weeks. The Vikings are fraught with issues, though.

For starters, the offensive line has been playing pretty terribly. A lot of this is due to the injuries they've had -- in Week 8, starting center Ryan Kelly (concussion) missed the game, starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw (knee) suffered a knee injury and was ruled out, and starting right tackle Brian O'Neill (knee) also didn't play at all.

We've seen plenty of examples on film to this point of the offensive line playing terribly. Perhaps it's a matter of time until they gel together, but with all the injuries, that will likely be more difficult. Mason has struggled to find space in recent weeks partly because of these struggles.

In hindsight, his Week 3 explosion for 23.6 PPR fantasy points was against the worst rushing defense in the NFL -- the Cincinnati Bengals have been awful against the run. Still, I would hold Mason for now and see if Minnesota can improve its offense and its blocking.

Who Should I Pick Up for Fantasy Football?

At running back, you can check and see if Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt (ankle) is still available. He's set to get more work due to the injury to Isiah Pacheco (knee), who has an MCL sprain and is likely to miss at least two weeks. Hunt draws a nice matchup against the Buffalo Bills, who struggle to stop the run.

Hunt has seen plenty of goal-line usage, the occasional target or two, and a lot of short-yardage rushes. His backup, rookie RB Brashard Smith, is hardly used as a pure runner and instead works more with designed targets, but he shouldn't be started yet. He's more of a dynasty stash.

An RB that has potential to break out at some point this season even without an injury to the guy ahead of him on the depth chart is Jacksonville Jaguars RB Bhayshul Tuten. He hasn't had much work this season, but he struggled through a shoulder injury for four weeks despite being cleared from the injury report before each game.

Tuten is playing for head coach Liam Coen, who was the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. After their bye, rookie RB Bucky Irving went on a tear, averaging nearly 22.5 PPR points in the rest of the games that year in which he played 50 percent or more of offensive snaps.

Tuten has the potential to quickly force at least an even committee split and potentially start to take over the backfield. Jags current RB1 Travis Etienne Jr. hasn't forced a missed tackle since Week 3, and his efficiency has plummeted in October compared to September.

Tuten is a free stash right now -- even if he doesn't end up getting much volume, you should always chase league-busting upside. He possesses that, and has a head coach that is an excellent run-game schemer. The Jaguars also have one of the NFL's better offensive lines.
