2026 Third Base Fantasy Baseball Rankings: Points Leagues

Manny Machado - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

2026 points fantasy baseball third base rankings, tiers, draft strategy for third base and points leagues. Nick Mariano is a top-accuracy fantasy baseball ranker.

Third base is a unique position to rank in standard roto leagues, as most third basemen pitch in a few categories by doing a little bit of everything. However, it's perfect in points leagues as third basemen can rack up a ton of points, making them one of the more coveted positions to draft in these formats. At RotoBaller HQ, we break down third base in points leagues with our 2026 fantasy baseball third base rankings for points leagues and head-to-head (H2H) points leagues.

The third base rankings below are specifically designed for points leagues. We also have many other fantasy baseball rankings, tools, and resources to help you win in 2026. Throughout the preseason and MLB season, we'll be publishing rankings, tools, and analysis articles, all geared for fantasy baseball points and H2H points leagues -- so bookmark that link and be sure to check back often.

In the article below, we will be taking a look at our third base points rankings list put together by RotoBaller's MLB expert Nick Mariano. These rankings cover the top 30 third basemen. 2026 Third Base Rankings: Points Leagues

These 3B rankings are for points and head-to-head points leagues. You can also see our roto fantasy baseball rankings.

Before we get to the rankings, let's quickly review points leagues and how they differ from other formats. Typically, points leagues have different league settings and scoring formats than other fantasy baseball leagues. Different MLB stats and categories are assigned different point values, and those can vary by individual league settings. Those different point buckets are then added up over the course of a scoring period or season.

In many cases, hitters who walk more and strike out less are preferred for points leagues. Also, many league formats tend to give more weight to pitchers than normal, as they can easily accrue points through categories like Innings Pitched. These are the general frameworks that we use for our points league rankings below, and explain why they look different than more standard 5x5 roto fantasy baseball rankings.

Fantasy Baseball Third Base News

Colt Keith, Detroit Tigers

Detroit Tigers infielder Colt Keith could be primed to "lock down a large share of playing time at third base," per Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. The 24-year-old has spent time at every infield position other than shortstop so far in his big league career, but saw more appearances as a designated hitter than anywhere else in 2025. Stavenhagen notes that Detroit has a multitude of options at the hot corner, namely, veterans Javier Baez, Zach McKinstry, and Matt Vierling, as well as prospects Kevin McGonigle and Max Anderson.

As such, Keith is not guaranteed to hold the job throughout the season, but he may enter Spring Training as the favorite to start at third base on Opening Day. Across 468 plate appearances for Detroit in 2025, Keith posted a .256/.333/.413 slash line with 13 home runs, 45 RBI, 65 runs scored, and one stolen base. He's been significantly better against right-handed pitching (.731 OPS) than left-handed pitching (.610 OPS) so far in his career.

Sal Stewart, Cincinnati Reds

Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Sal Stewart is primed to build off his strong MLB debut. The team's top prospect earned a call to the majors late in the second half and held an impressive .255/.293/.545 line over his first 18 gamd as the MLB level. However, over his last 10 games, Stewart took an even larger step forward, posting a .323/.382/.645 with three long balls.

Early in the campaign, Stewart spent most of his time with Double-A and had a brief taste of Triple-A shortly before his MLB debut. Through 118 games in the Reds' system, Stewart posted a .309/.383/.524 line with a .907 OPS, 20 home runs, and 17 stolen bases. This upcoming season, managers should expect Stewart to operate as a super utility option in the infield, earning starts at first base, second base, and third base. His five-category skill sets set him up for a prime breakout season.

Bo Bichette, New York Mets

Free-agent infielder Bo Bichette has agreed to a three-year, $126 million contract with the New York Mets, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. While the Mets were not one of the teams most frequently linked to Bichette throughout the offseason, Passan notes that New York pivoted to Bichette after losing out on outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Across 628 plate appearances with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2025, Bichette posted a .311/.357/.483 slash line with 18 home runs, 94 RBI, 78 runs scored, and four stolen bases. He turns just 28 in March, so the shorter-term, high-AAV contract structure will allow Bichette another shot at free agency as he enters his age-31 season.

While Bichette has almost exclusively played shortstop in his big-league career to this point, he seems likely to move to third base in New York with Francisco Lindor locked in at short. Mets infielders Mark Vientos and Brett Baty could both see a significant playing time reduction as a result of the team's acquisition of Bichette.

Nolan Arenado, Arizona Diamondbacks

The St. Louis Cardinals have traded third baseman Nolan Arenado to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In exchange, the Cardinals received right-handed pitcher Jack Martinez. Arenado has had his name on the trade block throughout the winter and finally agreed to waive his no-trade clause to join the Diamondbacks.

The 34-year-old is coming off a quiet season, posting a low .237/.289/.377 slash line with just 12 home runs and three stolen bases. Under the hood, the former second round of pitch generated a .289 xwOBA, placing him in the ninth percentile among qualified hitters. However, Arenado remains one of the top defenders in the sport as he placed in the 83rd percentile in Range and has been awarded 10 Gold Gloves and six Platinum Gloves.

Managers should expect Arenado to see an everyday role at the hot corner, which would likely shift Jordan Lawlar to the outfield or a super-utility role. In St. Louis, Thomas Saggese and Nolan Gorman figure to compete for daily opportunities at third base.

Alec Bohm, Philadelphia Phillies

According to Colin Beazley of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates could look to pursue Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm in a trade. With the Phillies in serious pursuit of Bo Bichette, they could look to move Bohm in a trade, as Bichette would likely become their everyday third baseman.

The Pirates have had a rather productive offseason, signing Ryan O'Hearn, who is expected to share time at first base and designated hitter, and trading for power-hitting second baseman Brandon Lowe.

Currently, Jared Triolo is slated to serve as the everyday third baseman for the Pirates. Last summer, Bohm posted a .287/.331/.409 line with 11 home runs and two stolen bases. He would provide another solid bat to an improving Pittsburgh lineup, but would likely see his counting stats take a decline moving away from the Phillies.

Eugenio Suarez, Free Agent

According to Sean McAdam and Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Boston Red Sox are still rumored to have interest in veteran third baseman Eugenio Suarez following Alex Bregman's signing with the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. Boston previously showed interest in Suarez earlier in the offseason but opted to wait in hopes of landing infielders Ketel Marte or Jorge Polanco.

Throughout the winter, the Red Sox viewed Suarez largely as a fallback option and did not seriously engage with his camp until Bregman left. In 2025, Suarez crushed 49 home runs but hit only .228 with a lackluster .298 on-base percentage. While the 34-year-old continues to barrel the ball 14.3% of the time, he has become a below-average defender and still strikes out at a near 30% rate.

From a fantasy standpoint, Boston would be an ideal landing spot, thanks to the Green Monster and the other hitter-friendly parks within the American League East. However, with Father Time undefeated, it may only be a matter of time before Suarez's elevated strikeout rate begins to overshadow his power production.

Alex Bregman, Chicago Cubs

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Chicago Cubs have signed free agent third baseman Alex Bregman to a massive five-year contract worth $175 million. Bregman was one of the top free-agent infielders still available on the open market, alongside shortstop Bo Bichette. Bregman spent the 2025 campaign with Boston after playing with the Houston Astros for the first nine seasons of his MLB career.

With Boston, Bregman remained a productive hitter, posting a strong .273/.360/.462 slash line with 28 doubles and 18 home runs across 114 contests. Under the hood, he generated a 71st-percentile .337 xwOBA and continued to show an elite eye at the plate, drawing walks at a 10.3% rate and striking out at a 14.1% rate.

With the Cubs, Bregman figures to serve as the everyday third baseman, which will likely shift former top prospect Matt Shaw into a utility role in the infield, as Dansby Swanson, Nico Hoerner, and Michael Busch are expected to remain everyday players. Bregman carries top-10 upside at the third base position in all formats as he moves to Chicago.
