Steelers Reportedly Contact Commanders Regarding Terry McLaurin
Terry McLaurin. It's unknown how engaged both sides were in discussions regarding a potential trade for the disgruntled wideout. However, with McLaurin not only expecting to be "paid like a true No. 1 receiver," he also wants to be the top option for any club he suits up for moving ahead. The Steelers made a move to acquire DK Metcalf from the Seahawks during the offseason. Not only that, the franchise gave him a hefty five-year, $150 million extension. Naturally, Metcalf is atop the depth chart in Pittsburgh, so bringing in McLaurin wouldn't make much sense for many different reasons. As of now, McLaurin remains in Washington, although that may not change anytime soon, considering the team doesn't appear too interested in trading him after he had a career-high 13 touchdowns in 2024. There will be more updates surrounding the 29-year-old in the coming days and weeks. Understandably, until the situation is resolved, some managers may look past McLaurin in fantasy drafts heading into Week 1.

Six Teams Could Pursue Terry McLaurin
Terry McLaurin requested a trade on Thursday after contract negotiations did not produce the progress the receiver was hoping for in training camp. NFL Network's Nick Shook put together a list of six teams that make the most sense to pursue the two-time Pro Bowl wideout, including the Chargers, Raiders, Jets, Patriots, 49ers, and Browns. Any deal will likely require an extension, and the Commanders are reportedly asking for a draft pick and a young NFL-ready receiver. While the six teams Shook lays out are all in need of receiving help, a deal to land McLaurin will be complicated and costly. He could be worth it, though, since he has produced over 1,000 receiving yards in five straight seasons and is coming off a career-high 13 touchdowns last year while working with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Commanders Not Interested in Trading Terry McLaurin
Terry McLaurin, despite his public request to be dealt. McLaurin and the team have been locked in a tenuous contract dispute for months, following the most productive season of his career. With McLaurin slated to make $15.5 million in base salary on the final year of his deal, the indication from his camp is that he's seeking a deal in line with that of DK Metcalf and the Pittsburgh Steelers, in the range of $33 million AAV. While the Commanders have not spoken publicly beyond saying they intend to keep McLaurin around long-term, the thought is that they're seeking a deal closer to the $23 million AAV recently agreed to by fellow 29-year-old Courtland Sutton and the Denver Broncos. Should the Commanders take the field without McLaurin in 2025, free agent addition Deebo Samuel Sr. would profile as the team's WR1, and quarterback Jayden Daniels would presumably see his sky-high second-year expectations take a notable dip.

Terry McLaurin Requests a Trade
Terry McLaurin requested a trade on Thursday after contract discussions fell through. McLaurin has been vocal about receiving an extension this year after delivering a career year in the 2024 season. Outside of McLaurin's rookie year, he has delivered over 1,000 yards receiving in every season he's played and remained a healthy option for the Commanders. With star quarterback Jayden Daniels entering the fold, this will be big news that can impact his play and McLaurin's after they connected for 13 passing touchdowns in 2024. As he enters his age-30 season, we will see if the Commanders work harder to get a deal done or decide to ship him off before his final contracted year.

Jaylin Lane Getting Work with the First Team
Jaylin Lane has been seeing time with the first team during the early stages of training camp. According to Lynell Willingham of 1067 The Fan, the rookie out of Virginia Tech was being used as a decoy on a jet sweep during Thursday's practice session. The Commanders selected the wide receiver in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the 128th overall pick. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he may be pushed back to a reserve role once Terry McLaurin and the team resolve their contract dispute. During the past two seasons at Virginia Tech, Lane averaged 585 scrimmage yards per season and scored 10 total touchdowns. If Lane were to continue to impress, he could eventually jump Noah Brown and Luke McCaffrey on the depth chart. For now, he remains a stash option in deeper dynasty leagues.

Year 2 Jump Coming for Luke McCaffrey?
Luke McCaffrey has put in over the offseason. Washington drafted McCaffrey in the third round out of Rice in 2024, and he did not contribute much on offense as a rookie. In 17 games, McCaffrey recorded 18 catches for 168 yards and zero touchdowns. Heading into 2025, the 24-year-old appears to be battling veteran Noah Brown for the WR3 role in Washington behind Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel Sr. However, McLaurin (ankle) is currently on the active/PUP list with an ankle injury and is engaged in a very public contract dispute with the team, so there's some added uncertainty at the position. A strong showing in the preseason could go a long way toward solidifying McCaffrey's role within the offense.

Deebo Samuel Sr. Showing Versatility in Camp
Deebo Samuel Sr. in various spots as they look to take advantage of his versatility, according to John Keim of ESPN. Not only has Samuel caught passes and run the ball, but the Commanders have paired him with running back Austin Ekeler on kickoff returns. Samuel was a big-time all-around weapon for the San Francisco 49ers earlier in his career, but they traded him to Washington in the offseason after his production went backward. Samuel caught 51 of 81 targets for 670 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games last year. As a runner, he totaled just 136 yards on 42 attempts and added another score. The 29-year-old still believes he has "a lot left in the tank," and he'll have a chance to show it as a key piece in a talented Commanders offense led by second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt Getting Work With First-Team Offense
Jacory Croskey-Merritt is getting reps with quarterback Jayden Daniels and the first-team offense in the no-huddle session during Tuesday's training camp practice. It's something worth watching for the 245th overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft back in April. The 24-year-old had 1,190 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2023 at New Mexico but then ran into eligibility issues in 2024 after transferring to Arizona and played in one game. It's the reason why he fell to the final round of the draft, although he does have some intrigue as a between-the-tackles bruiser. As long as Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr. are healthy, Croskey-Merritt figures to compete the No. 3 change-of-pace role with Chris Rodriguez and Jeremy McNichols. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues can likely ignore him.

Commanders, Terry McLaurin Not Close on New Deal
Terry McLaurin (ankle) is asking for in contract negotiations is "vast," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. McLaurin ended his holdout and reported to Commanders' training camp on Sunday, but he was immediately placed on the active/physically unable to perform list, so this could be a hold-in situation. McLaurin will turn 30 in September and has been remarkably durable throughout his career, playing in 17 games in each of the last five seasons. He caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns in 2024, his first season playing with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. McLaurin profiles as a high-end WR2 in fantasy as long as he's ready to go for the regular season, but it appears as though his return to the practice field is not particularly close.

Terry McLaurin Reports to Camp, Placed on PUP List
Terry McLaurin ended his holdout on Sunday morning. McLaurin has been removed from the did not report list and placed on the active/physically unable to perform list. The 29-year-old is reportedly dealing with an ankle issue that has lingered from last season. McLaurin is allowed to do some team activities, but cannot participate in practice until being medically cleared. The star wideout has been holding out over a new contract extension. McLaurin has one year left on a three-year extension that he signed in 2022. The decision to go to the PUP list does not mean the two sides are nearing a deal. This move allows McLaurin to avoid $50K daily fines that he was receiving for missing camp. Hopefully, the two sides can agree on a deal for the beginning of the regular season.

Noah Brown Should Come Off PUP List Soon
Noah Brown (undisclosed) will join training camp practices soon but needs a bit of a ramp-up period and rest days. The Commanders placed Brown on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list to begin camp, but he could be back sooner than later. The 29-year-old was carted off the field on June 11 at minicamp, but the Commanders never specified what type of injury he was dealing with. It shouldn't really matter, though, as Brown should have enough time to get ready for Week 1 of the regular season if he can return to practice soon. When he does, he'll be competing for playing time as the No. 3 receiver behind Terry McLaurin and newcomer Deebo Samuel Sr. Brown missed the final two months of 2024 with a kidney injury and could face stiff competition from Luke McCaffrey.

Terry McLaurin Officially Placed on Reserve/Did Not Report List
Terry McLaurin was officially placed on the Reserve/Did Not Report list on Wednesday. McLaurin continues to hold out as he seeks a new contract with the Commanders. The 29-year-old has been disappointed with the way contract talks with Washington have progressed and has not reported to training camp. He hasn't missed a game since 2020 and caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns across 17 games last season. Scary Terry continues to weigh out his options for a new contract by holding out or requesting a trade. The Commanders highly value him and hope to get a new deal soon. Washington's star wideout's fantasy stock could continue to dip while the holdout continues. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the situation as McLaurin comes in as a high-end WR2 in upcoming fantasy drafts and is ranked WR15 in the latest RotoBaller rankings.

Terry McLaurin Officially Holding Out
Terry McLaurin, who is seeking a new contract, did not report to training camp on Tuesday and is officially a holdout this summer, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. McLaurin wasn't present for the team's conditioning test on Tuesday, which marked the unofficial start of training camp. The 29-year-old pass-catcher is the only Commanders player that isn't accounted for. It doesn't come as a surprise after McLaurin recently said he was disappointed with the direction of contract talks with the team of late. He's seeking a new deal after catching 82 passes for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns in 17 regular-season games in 2024. McLaurin now has five straight seasons of 1,000 receiving yards and is the unquestioned WR1 in D.C. He's due for TD regression, but with Jayden Daniels under center, he profiles as a strong WR2 in fantasy.

Terry McLaurin Valued in Washington
Terry McLaurin is still uncertain for the start of training camp, but the Commanders are making it clear that they are willing to work on a new deal with their star receiver. Commanders General Manager Adam Peters said on Tuesday, "Without a doubt, I think everybody in this building values Terry very much. In terms of where we're at, we've had conversations recently and we'll look to have more conversations. ... We'll do whatever we can to get a deal done." Scary Terry has put up over 1,000 yards in each of his last five seasons without missing a game since 2020. He produced a new career-high 13 touchdowns last year while working with rookie standout Jayden Daniels. McLaurin is exploring every option, including a holdout, hold-in, and a trade request, so keep a close eye on his status as training camp opens.

Terry McLaurin Not Trying to Break the Team Apart With New Deal
Terry McLaurin will attend the start of training camp this week, but he said he's interested in "trying to bring a deal together, not breaking the team apart," according to a source close to McLaurin. The 29-year-old skipped offseason workouts as he seeks a long-term contract extension, and he also hasn't decided if he'll ask for a trade. The All-Pro wideout and team captain is exploring every option, including a holdout, hold-in and a trade request. McLaurin has made it clear he's frustrated with the situation, but the Commanders haven't talked to him about his contract in weeks. He turns 30 in September and is entering the final year of a four-year, $68.4 million deal. After posting his fifth-straight 1,000-yard season in 2024, McLaurin has become a strong WR2 target in fantasy.
