Jesperi Kotkaniemi Injured on Friday
Carolina Hurricanes center Jesperi Kotkaniemi (face) was unable to complete Friday's preseason clash against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He took a high stick to the face late in the third period from Lightning forward Zemgus Girgensons, who received a double-minor for the incident. There were no updates on Kotkaniemi after the game. Just minutes before he was injured, Kotkaniemi scored Carolina's third goal in a 6-5 loss. Although Kotkaniemi was hurt on Friday, it didn't seem like a serious enough issue to doubt his availability for the start of the season. Kotkaniemi looks set to spend another season as Carolina's fourth-line center. He picked up 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists) in 78 contests a season ago.
