Joe Mauer Wants To Stay With Twins
7 years agoMinnesota Twins first baseman Joe Mauer, who is in the final year of an eight-year, $184 million deal, would like to continue his playing career with the Twins after the 2018 season. “If I can still contribute, I’m planning to keep going. I’d like that. I really enjoy playing this game, and I want to keep doing that as long as I can,” Mauer said. Mauer had been declining rapidly for three straight seasons, but he bounced back in 2017, hitting .304 with an OPS over .800 for the first time since his serious concussion in 2013. Mauer no longer makes elite contact like he used to, but he has an excellent eye at the plate and can contribute in on-base percentage leagues. However, he lacks power and will continue to be rested periodically to keep him healthy throughout the year. He's merely a weak option at his position in AL-only leagues.
