James Paxton Will Not Require Tommy John Surgery
James Paxton (elbow) was diagnosed with a muscular issue after exiting his Thursday start with elbow discomfort. That’s encouraging news for Paxton, as it means that he’ll avoid Tommy John surgery. Still, it seems as though Paxton will miss significant time and is probably droppable in most redraft leagues as a result. Paxton had looked off all season with diminished velocity and overall ineffectiveness, and it’s possible that his elbow had been bothering him for longer than just the one start. Jonathan Loisiga is likely to start in Paxton’s place and is worth keeping an eye on in deeper leagues thanks to his 2.77 ERA out of the bullpen so far this season.
