Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood (lower body) might miss the start of the season. According to Evan Rawal of The Denver Gazette, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said Blackwood is making progress in his recovery from a lower-body injury, but the team isn't sure if he'll be ready for opening night. Blackwood's injury is a blow for the Avalanche, but they have a quality backup in Scott Wedgewood. The well-traveled veteran posted a 13-4-1 record in Denver last season, allowing 1.99 goals and notching two shutouts with a .917 save percentage. Trent Miner is another option between the sticks for Colorado if Blackwood isn't available at the beginning of the campaign.--Taavi Pailk
