Is Garrett Wilson out for the season? When is Garrett Wilson coming back? The latest Garrett Wilson injury update and fantasy football outlook heading into Week 16 of 2025.
New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) suffered his second knee sprain of the 2025 season in Week 10. It was his first game back from his first knee sprain, which caused him to miss three weeks, including his team's Week 9 bye.
It seems, on the surface, like the Jets rushed him back into play, which caused him to re-aggravate his injury. It's certainly possible that he wanted to return, and the team should have held him out for longer, but they just decided not to. It wouldn't be a huge surprise, as this seems to be all the rage this season.
But the Jets are a losing team that have been eliminated from playoff contention. They've been absolutely abysmal, both on offense and defense, and Wilson is one of the few bright spots of this team. It would make sense for the team to shut him down for the year. But will they? Let's dive in.

Is Garrett Wilson Out for the 2025 Season?
Week 16 is coming up, and the Jets have yet to open Wilson's practice window. He's currently on injured reserve, and the team has a 21-day window after activating him in which they must elevate him to the active roster. This team won't be in the playoffs, so they have less time than that until the season is simply over.
Generally, teams prefer to hold their players out for at least one game after opening the practice window to give the player more time to heal and get back into the routine of practicing and playing in games. Thus, it seems that Wilson's time is running out. It seems very unlikely that he'll play in Week 16.

Wilson is an incredible talent. It would be a shame to see him injure his knee for a third time. There's no need to rush him back and potentially get a worse draft pick. Of course, players want to play, and they might do it anyway to try to get some "positive momentum" to go into 2026. But it's a risky thing to do.
Staying on the safe side and holding him out for the rest of the year makes more sense. The Jets have a big need at quarterback, and need the best draft pick they can possibly get to try to get a signal-caller that can actually help their offense be productive.
Garrett Wilson 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
With quarterback Tyrod Taylor (groin) dealing with an injury and QB Justin Fields officially benched, the Jets turned to QB Brady Cook to lead their passing attack last week, just as he took over for Taylor in Week 14. He threw one touchdown and five interceptions in those two games.
He's not the answer, but Taylor was productive in the games he played. So Wilson, should he play in Week 16, would actually have nice value as long as Taylor starts. They'll play against the New Orleans Saints, who don't exactly have an elite defense.

Whether this would happen would of course depend on Wilson's health. Since his practice window wasn't opened last week, it seems like he's not close to 100 percent, in which case it would be a tough challenge deciding whether to start him this week.
Injury reports from teams are often misleading, too. The New England Patriots defense awaits the Jets in Week 17, and though they're solid against a team's No. 1 receiver, Wilson would be a fine start in that game. Fantasy points count in garbage time, too.
So Wilson's chances of helping you win your league are very slim, but he should be a viable flex the last two weeks if he plays.
