Starting Pitcher Rankings Analysis for Week 12

-Yoshinobu Yamamoto climbs all the way up the No. 5 spot after back-to-back elite starts. Yamamoto had a near-perfect game his last time out by throwing 8 1/3 innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts against the White Sox, and then delivered eight innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts against the Angels on June 6. The Dodgers right-hander now has a 1.01 ERA since May 15.

-Logan Webb has been dominant on the mound since returning from the injured list in late May. He has a 0.66 ERA and 23 strikeouts over his last four starts, which included a dominant eight-inning effort with seven strikeouts in his last outing against the Cubs. Webb rises 13 spots in Nick's rankings and is now a top-20 pitcher for the rest of the season.

-Max Meyer has finally taken his game to the next level. He has a 2.75 ERA on the season and has allowed two runs or fewer in five of his last six starts. In his last outing, Meyer threw six innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts against the Pirates. With an 81st percentile strikeout rate and an 84th percentile whiff rate, the Marlins right-hander is a top-20 pitcher moving forward.

-Nathan Eovaldi hasn't been as consistent on the mound recently. He has allowed at least three runs in five consecutive outings and has a whopping 5.23 ERA during this five-start stretch. Although the veteran still owns a strong 29.5% whiff rate and a 36.2% chase rate, he drops down 10 spots to No. 25 overall on Nick's rankings.

-Emerson Hancock is coming off his worst outing of the season. He allowed six runs on nine hits with a season-low two strikeouts across four innings against the Nationals. Hancock's 4.45 expected ERA, .255 expected batting average against, and 44.7% hard-hit rate all suggest that some regression is likely headed his way in the near future. That's enough to drop him 11 spots this week.

-Dustin May is one of the biggest risers on Nick's rankings for this week. He has a 2.54 ERA over his last 12 starts and just had a one-hit complete game shutout against the Padres on Monday night. May looks legit on the mound with a 98th percentile Fastball Run Value and a strikeout rate that continues to climb. The Cardinals right-hander has struck out nine batters in three of his last four starts.

-Connelly Early has hit sort of a rookie wall in his first full season in the majors. He has allowed 12 earned runs in his last 14 2/3 innings pitched (7.36 ERA) and just gave up a season-high six earned runs on 11 hits in his last start against the Rangers on Sunday. A 4.51 expected ERA has Early trending down in Week 12 of the fantasy baseball season.

-Sandy Alcantara is definitely in a groove on the mound right now. He has a 2.86 ERA and 19 strikeouts in three June starts. The former Cy Young winner has completed at least seven innings in three straight outings and threw eight innings of three-run ball with seven strikeouts against the Pirates in his last start. Alcantara rises 21 spots.

-Bryce Elder still owns a strong 3.15 ERA on the year, but he hasn't been as consistent on the mound. He has allowed six runs in two of his last four starts and has a whopping 5.29 ERA with a 13.4% strikeout rate over his last six outings since May 15. Although Elder is still a top-75 pitcher in Nick's rest-of-season rankings, his lack of swing and miss stuff has been noticeable.

-Foster Griffin continues to do his job on the mound. He has given up just one run in each of his last three outings and allowed only one run across six dominant innings in Tuesday's start against the Royals. His underlying metrics might not support his recent numbers on the mound, but he's been really consistent recently. Griffin rises 14 spots in Nick's rankings.

-Trey Yesavage is currently in a funk on the mound. He has allowed at least five earned runs in three of his last four starts and has walked at least six batters in two of his last three starts. Even though his expected ERA (3.15) and expected batting average against (.194) both rank well, Yesavage just isn't performing on the mound.

-Andrew Abbott's 25-spot rise is tied with May for the biggest jump in Nick's rest-of-season rankings this week. The southpaw has thrown a quality start in three of his last four starts and has allowed three runs or fewer in nine consecutive outings. While Abbott won't miss many bats, he is proving to be a consistent fantasy option. He's up to No. 70 overall.
