Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read the recent news and fantasy outlooks of some of the top cut candidates:
Jayden Reed, WR, Green Bay Packers (Cut List Ranking No. 1)
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that wide receiver Jayden Reed (neck) is having surgery on his neck and will miss the rest of the season, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. Reed was placed on Injured Reserve on Wednesday. It is obviously bad news for Reed and the struggling Packers offense, but LaFleur said he does not think the injury will end Reed's career.
The 26-year-old former second-rounder from Michigan State had a nose for the end zone in his first two NFL seasons, combining for 17 touchdowns (14 receiving, three rushing) in 2023 and 2024, but he played in only seven games last year due to injuries and is now out for the season. Reed will be hard to trust as a fantasy wideout going into the 2027 campaign as he embarks on a long rehab after neck surgery.
In two games played in 2026 before injuring his neck, Reed caught four of his eight targets for 24 yards for the Packers. His absence for the rest of the season will only fuel second-year pass-catcher Matthew Golden's breakout potential.
Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers (Cut List Ranking No. 5)
When asked about quarterback Justin Herbert's decision-making after the team's third straight loss to start the season on Sunday on the road against the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said, "Be better," according to ESPN's Kris Rhim.
Harbaugh has typically gone out of his way to defend Herbert since taking the head-coaching job in L.A. in 2023, but he is now calling the struggling signal-caller out to step up his game after the tough start. Last week, Harbaugh said he "wouldn't change a thing about Justin."
Herbert has not looked like himself in coordinator Mike McDaniel's offense through three games. He threw for 226 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception, but he could have had three if Bills defenders did not drop two of them.
It is still early, but so far, Herbert is not remotely close to a potential breakout fantasy QB in McDaniel's scheme like many were hoping for. It does not get any easier for Herbert, either, as he will face the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and their strong defense in Week 4.
Travis Etienne Jr., RB, New Orleans Saints (Cut List Ranking No. 12)
The New Orleans Saints are placing running back Travis Etienne Jr. (hamstring) on Injured Reserve with a hamstring injury, per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. Etienne Jr. will now miss the Saints' next four games at least, leaving him ineligible to return before Week 9.
The 27-year-old had gotten off to a slow start to his first season in New Orleans, recording 30 carries for 128 yards and 11 catches for 51 yards on 13 targets across the first three weeks of 2026. With Etienne Jr. sidelined, the Saints will likely split backfield work between Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, and CJ Donaldson.
Kamara is obviously the most established back between the three, but he's 31 years old and has averaged 2.8 yards per carry so far this year. In leagues where he's not already rostered, Miller could be a worthy waiver wire target for fantasy managers.
Tyler Allgeier, RB, Arizona Cardinals (Cut List Ranking No. 31)
Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier took a clear back seat to Jeremiyah Love in Sunday's 36-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Allgeier carried twice for a loss of one yard and caught four passes for 10 yards, giving him six touches on the afternoon. Love handled 21 carries for 90 yards and added five catches for 19 yards and a touchdown, finishing with 26 touches.
The difference was hard to miss after Arizona opened the season with a much more balanced split. Allgeier had 19 touches to Love's 13 in Week 1, while Love held a 12-to-7 edge in Week 2. Sunday was different. Love also played 56 offensive snaps compared with 31 for Allgeier, another sign that the rookie had moved to the front of the backfield for this game.
It is still only one week, but Allgeier's usage Sunday looked much more like a clear No. 2 role than the near-even committee Arizona used to open the season.
Adonai Mitchell, WR, New York Jets (Cut List Ranking No. 28)
New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (finger) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Chicago, according to Zack Rosenblatt. It will be the second straight game Mitchell has missed after the finger injury also kept him out against Detroit last week. He did not practice Wednesday or Thursday and had already been considered week-to-week by head coach Aaron Glenn.
Mitchell opened the season with nine catches for 123 yards over two games, including six receptions for 63 yards against Green Bay in Week 2. With Mitchell unavailable again, the Jets will have to keep leaning on the rest of their receiver group behind Garrett Wilson. He remains a viable injury stash in deeper 12-team formats.
