When will Chuba Hubbard return and play? Will Chuba Hubbard be back again this season? Read the latest Chuba Hubbard injury updates and return date for Week 6 (2025).
In November 2024, Carolina rewarded running back Chuba Hubbard with a four-year, $33.2 million contract extension, and he proved he was worth the money with an outstanding year. Running behind an improved Panthers offensive line, Hubbard ran for 1,195 yards and 10 touchdowns on 4.8 yards per carry.
After his breakout season, Hubbard was regarded as a solid RB2 heading into 2025 drafts, as free-agent signing Rico Dowdle was not projected to hurt his role as the clear starter in Carolina.
However, in Week 4 against the New England Patriots, Hubbard suffered a calf strain, which caused him to miss a game against the Miami Dolphins the following week. When will Hubbard return to action, and what is his fantasy football outlook when he does? Let's dive in.

Chuba Hubbard Injury Update
Following Hubbard's injury against the Patriots, the Panthers were hopeful that Hubbard wouldn't miss any time. However, his injury was worse than initially thought. It kept him off the practice field for three straight days, forcing the Panthers to sit Hubbard out of the Week 5 game against Miami.
The question now is when Hubbard will be able to return. He is currently listed as day-to-day with his calf injury, but Carolina might not allow him to return to the lineup until he's at 100%, which is a wise decision for a couple of reasons.
Hubbard previously suffered a Grade 2 calf strain in 2024 that caused him to miss the final two games of the season. And in Hubbard's absence in Week 5, Dowdle flourished, running for an eye-popping 206 yards on 23 carries against the Dolphins.

Fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if Hubbard sits out another game, even if he appears to be back to full health in practice. As long as Dowdle is on the team, Hubbard's absence won't be as big a deal as it was last season.
Chuba Hubbard Fantasy Football Outlook
During the first four games of the season, Hubbard struggled to match his 2024 workload and efficiency. In those games, Hubbard averaged just over 13 carries and 54 rushing yards per game, or 4.1 yards per carry. He has not yet rushed for a touchdown this season, but he has caught 13 passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
This limited role compared to last season is worrying for a couple of reasons. The Panthers are currently missing starting offensive linemen Austin Corbett and Robert Hunt, and each is expected to miss significant time. Plus, Dowdle was involved in the offense even before Hubbard's injury, averaging seven carries per game in the season's first month. If Hubbard is both less efficient than last season and receiving fewer touches, alarm bells should be ringing for his fantasy football managers.
And as previously mentioned, Dowdle's exceptional Week 5 performance could keep Hubbard off the field for a longer period of time. Even when Hubbard returns, he could be in a timeshare rather than the out-and-out RB1 in Carolina.
This could potentially limit Hubbard's fantasy upside for the rest of the season. While managers should keep Hubbard and strongly consider starting him when he returns, they should keep in mind that he will probably not live up to his draft-day price of a reliable RB2.
If Hubbard does not play again in Week 6, Dowdle could be in for another big performance in a "revenge game" against his former team, the Dallas Cowboys. When Hubbard returns, he'll be a low-end RB2 or FLEX option if he continues to earn an RB1 workload. However, if he gets pushed into a committee with Dowdle, Hubbard will be far more difficult to trust.
