Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Breece Hall, RB, Jets
New York Jets running back Breece Hall draws an unfavorable matchup this weekend when he squares off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road. The Iowa State product - and the remainder of New York's offense, for that matter - have had mixed results through the season's first two weeks.
Hall looked excellent in Week 1, compiling 145 scoreless yards across 21 touches. In Week 2, however, quarterback Justin Fields' (concussion) inefficiencies (3-for-11) held the team back. Fields won't be able to suit up this weekend, leaving veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor to work in his stead. While Taylor has shown competence throughout his career, it will be difficult to trust him to support the Jets' skill players for fantasy.
Furthermore, Tampa Bay has yielded the fifth-fewest rushing yards through two games. They can be had through the air, though, which is likely where the fourth-year back will do his damage. Hall is RotoBaller's PPR RB19 ahead of this weekend.
Courtland Sutton, WR, Broncos
Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton looked good enough in Week 1 against the Titans, pulling in six of his nine targets for 61 yards and a touchdown. However, he cooled off in the Week 2 loss to the Colts, amassing only one grab for six yards.
With the Broncos sitting at 1-1, Denver will next meet the Chargers in an AFC West clash. Without question, the Los Angeles defense has played well so far throughout the 2025 campaign. That trend might continue on Sunday.
While it appears Troy Franklin is currently Bo Nix's preferred target in the first two weeks, Sutton is expected to remain involved at a consistent level moving forward. With that said, managers can give the 29-year-old a free pass for his previous performance and view him as a starting fantasy option in Week 3, especially with Evan Engram (back) ruled out.
Omarion Hampton, RB, Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton struggled in Monday's 20-9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The rookie finished with eight carries for 24 yards and caught one pass for one yard. He ran hard, but the Raiders' defense shut down the run all night.
His snap count decreased from 80% to 62%, and with Najee Harris becoming more involved, this could be a crucial week for the rookie. Although the Denver Broncos' defense just allowed 165 rushing yards to Jonathan Taylor, they still maintain a strong front.
Even though the Chargers have relied more on the passing game early in the season, Hampton needs to make the most of this starting opportunity, or he might end up sharing more playing time in the future. Fantasy managers should consider Hampton a low-end RB2 for this week.
Calvin Ridley, WR, Titans
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley projects to carry a high-floor WR3 value in a Week 3 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Through the first two weeks of the season, the Titans have faced two tough defensive units and have struggled to find their footing on offense.
In Week 1, Ridley lined up against the Denver secondary and caught just four of his eight targets for 27 yards. In Week 2, Ridley and the offense took a step forward, facing the Rams, catching three of his six targets for 56 yards.
While rookie Elic Ayomanor has emerged as a strong No. 2 option in the passing attack, Ridley remains Cam Ward's go-to option. As a result, fantasy managers should view him as a high-floor WR3 in PPR leagues facing the Colts, who have allowed the 16th-most PPR points to opposing WRs this season.
Darnell Mooney, WR, Falcons
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney (shoulder) was a full participant in practice on Friday and heads into the weekend without an injury designation. The 27-year-old missed Week 1 with a shoulder injury, but was back out there in Week 2, reeling in two of his four targets for 20 yards. No pass catcher had more than five targets in that contest, so Mooney's four targets represented a 19.0 percent target share, which was right around his 19.9 percent target share from 2024.
The sixth-year pro has had limited game action with Michael Penix Jr., having played in only three of his five career starts dating back to last season, but he's garnered at least four targets in each of them. Although Mooney was absent from the Week 18 matchup between these two teams last season, Penix did throw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, completing big chunk plays, which is what Mooney excels at.
Look for Mooney to put up more respectable numbers this week than he did a week ago, with a chance to break off a long touchdown catch, but with just six red zone targets all of 2024, he's typically not an option when they get in close. In a game that the Falcons may lean on the run again as well, the 5-foot-11 wideout settles into the WR4/5 range with some upside in PPR leagues.
