Jalen Beeks Earns First Save In Extra Innings
Jalen Beeks allowed two hits and no earned runs in one inning on Sunday, earning his first save of the season in his team's 11-9 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Beeks entered in the bottom of the tenth inning to protect a three-run lead and promptly allowed a single to Weston Wilson, who advanced Bryson Stott to third. A Max Kepler sac fly then drove in Stott a batter later. Trea Turner singled to left after that, but the 31-year-old would get Bryce Harper to fly out and Kyle Schwarber to ground out to end the threat. It wasn't efficient (20 pitches, 13 strikes), but he got the job done. Beeks has yet to allow an earned run since the Braves hung three on him ten days ago (three appearances), and he's down to a 1.93 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 18.2 innings. While the strikeouts haven't been there recently, the Arkansas alum has five holds and should be good for the occasional win and save.
