Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read about fantasy football players to consider dropping for Week 4:
Jerry Jeudy, WR, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was quiet in an upset Week 3 win over the Green Bay Packers, catching just one of his five targets for 17 yards. The entire passing offense was pedestrian in the 13-10 win as Cleveland leaned extensively on the run game to defeat Green Bay.
Jeudy is posting modest numbers through three weeks as he has caught just 10 of his 21 targets for 134 scoreless yards thus far. The Cleveland pass-catchers could be in for a long season as Joe Flacco has struggle and rookie Dillon Gabriel is unlikely to provide much of a lift to the unit if he eventually takes over as QB1.
The Cleveland Browns veteran and former first-rounder, Jerry Jeudy, is looking like a WR4/5 in fantasy moving forward. While he may be inconsistent, there should also be some bigger weeks ahead.
Alec Pierce, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in the Week 3 win over the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Pierce suffered the injury while coming down hard on a catch deep down the field in the blowout victory over Tennessee.
Before leaving, the 25-year-old pass-catcher caught four of his five targets for 67 yards. He is now up in the air to be ready to play on Sunday in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams, and fantasy managers will have to check his practice statuses, beginning on Wednesday.
Through three weeks, Pierce ranks third in Indy with 171 receiving yards, behind rookie tight end Tyler Warren and receiver Michael Pittman Jr. If Pierce is unable to play in Week 4, Josh Downs will be a much more attractive WR4/flex in fantasy lineups as the Colts look to remain undefeated.
Michael Penix Jr., QB, Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed just 18 of his 36 pass attempts for 172 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions during Sunday's Week 3 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
The Falcons were held scoreless in their ugly divisional loss, prompting the team's coaching staff to replace Penix with veteran Kirk Cousins in the fourth quarter. Cousins completed five of seven passes for 29 yards during his limited action.
The quarterback change was likely due to the blowout and not indicative of the Falcons' depth chart moving forward. Still, managers should stay tuned to upcoming depth chart news from Atlanta nonetheless.
Ja'Tavion Sanders, TE, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders (ankle) has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain after undergoing an MRI exam on Monday, and he's expected to miss multiple weeks, a league source told Joe Person of The Athletic.
Sanders was injured in the Week 3 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday when a defender fell on him after coming down with a catch in the fourth quarter. With Sanders now out for multiple weeks, Mitch Evans and James Mitchell will bump up on the TE depth chart behind Tommy Tremble. Through three weeks, Sanders has 11 catches on 14 targets for 92 yards and no touchdowns in his second NFL season.
The veteran Tommy Tremble's role will expand in Carolina's offense moving forward, but he's known as a blocking TE, meaning fantasy managers should look elsewhere if they are looking for help at the position.
Kyle Monangai, RB, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears rookie running back Kyle Monangai had a quiet statistical game in his team's Week 3 win over the Dallas Cowboys, finishing with 20 yards from scrimmage on seven total touches.
Bears RB1 D'Andre Swift still appears to have a strong hold on the backfield touches in Chicago, as Swift finished with 78 yards from scrimmage on 16 total touches. Neither Bears running back is averaging four yards per carry so far this season, so Monangai could work his way into a larger workload if he can improve his production over the course of the season.
In deep fantasy leagues, the 23-year-old could be a worthy stash candidate depending on overall roster construction.
