Romy Gonzalez Day-to-Day With Knee Soreness
Romy Gonzalez (knee) exited a 6-0 win over the Athletics on Tuesday with soreness in his left knee, but it doesn't appear to be a serious injury. "Structurally, everything's good. Hoping to be ready to go by Friday," said Gonzalez, who went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI on Tuesday before the Red Sox replaced him at first base with Nathaniel Lowe in the bottom of the second inning. With Gonzalez unavailable, Lowe will start at first, and David Hamilton will man the keystone against Athletics right-hander Mason Barnett on Wednesday. The Red Sox are idle on Thursday, but based on what Gonzalez told the media, he could be available when they open an important series against the New York Yankees on Friday. The 29-year-old has been productive over 84 games this season, having slashed .311/.345/.507 with nine homers, 48 RBI, 41 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 290 plate appearances.
