Brady Basso Reinstated From Injured List and Optioned
Brady Basso (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and then optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas, according to the team. The A's also transferred catcher Austin Wynns (abdomen) to the 60-day IL, which means he won't return this season. The 27-year-old southpaw has yet to pitch in the big leagues this season after he was placed on the IL before the start of the year with a left-shoulder strain. Basso had a setback along the way and will now go back to the minors to give himself a chance to pitch for the A's down the stretch. The former 16th-round pick in 2019 out of Oklahoma State made his major-league debut in 2024 and went 1-1 with a 4.03 ERA (3.88 FIP) and 1.25 WHIP with a 19:5 K:BB in seven outings (four starts). Basso is a command artist with limited long-term fantasy value.Source: A's Communications

Michael Conforto Back on Monday Against Angels
Michael Conforto (knee) is starting in left field and batting seventh in Monday's series opener against the hosting Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Jose Soriano. Conforto was hit by a pitch on his right knee in Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays and was given a day off in Sunday's series finale as a result. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter is back in there on Monday, though, as he look to find the form he had at the plate in July. Conforto had an .827 OPS in July but has only three hits in 24 at-bats with an RBI and six strikeouts in nine games in August. He just has not been a consistent contributor for the first-place Dodgers in his first year in L.A., as he enters Monday's action hitting under .200 with nine home runs, 25 RBI and 41 runs scored in 103 games on the season.Source: MLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Jac Caglianone Beginning Rehab Assignment on Tuesday
Jac Caglianone (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Caglianone was cleared for baseball activities last week, now he's ready to take the next step. The rookie slugger has been sidelined since late July due to a hamstring strain. The expectation is that he'll need a handful of games to get back into the swing of things. He should be ready to rejoin the Royals lineup by late August. Fantasy managers should check back for another update on his status later in the week.Source: Anne Rogers
Kansas City Royals first baseman Cole Ragans to Throw Bullpen Session on Tuesday
Cole Ragans (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. This will be the first time that Ragans has thrown since landing on the injured list in early June. The expectation is that Ragans will throw a few bullpen sessions before going on a rehab assignment. The southpaw has been sidelined for quite a while, so he'll need time to build back up his pitch count and stamina. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect to see Ragans back on the mound for the Royals until September.Source: Anne Rogers
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Oswaldo Cabrera Unlikely to Play Again in 2025
Oswaldo Cabrera (ankle) is considered a long shot to return to the field this season. There is a small window for Cabrera to return, but it remains unlikely at this point. Cabrera has been sidelined since having surgery in mid-May to repair a fractured ankle. The good news is, Cabrera has been walking around without the help of a boot or scooter. However, Cabrera hasn't advanced to any baseball activities yet. The Yankees aren't going to rush anything, so fantasy managers shouldn't count on getting anything from Cabrera for the rest of the season.Source: Gary Phillips
New York Yankees infielder Aaron Judge Unlikely to Play Outfield Versus Twins
Aaron Judge (elbow) is unlikely to play in the outfield during their series against the Minnesota Twins, according to manager Aaron Boone. Over the weekend, the Yankees said Judge should be back in the outfield soon. It won't be this early, but it sounds like the veteran slugger is almost there. That being said, Judge will be limited to designated hitter duties during this series. He recently returned from a flexor strain, so the Yankees don't want to push him into the outfield yet. Giancarlo Stanton will continue seeing time in right field until Judge is ready to go back out there.Source: Gary Phillips
New York Yankees outfielder Yordan Alvarez Advances to Live Hitting
Yordan Alvarez (hand) was able to take live batting practice at the team's spring training complex in Florida over the weekend. This is a positive step forward as Alvarez was limited to hitting in the batting cage before this. The expectation is that Alvarez will likely need a few more batting practice sessions before he heads out on a minor league rehab assignment. This is a step in the right direction, but there is still more work to do. There currently isn't a timetable for Alvarez to return to the Astros lineup. He has been out since early May due to a fractured hand. At this point, Alvarez probably won't be able to contribute in Houston until September.Source: Julia Morales
Houston Astros designated hitter Wenceel Perez Returns to Tigers Lineup
Wenceel Perez (foot) is starting in right field and batting third in the order for Monday's series opener on the road against the division-rival Chicago White Sox and right-handed opener Elvis Peguero. Perez fouled a ball off his right foot in the loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday and was held out of Sunday's series finale. The 25-year-old switch-hitting Dominican outfielder will hope to keep up what has been a strong start to the month, has he's gone 10-for-24 (.417) with two home runs, a triple, three RBI, four runs scored and a steal in eight games. Overall, he's hitting .267 (52-for-195) with nine long balls, 25 RBI, 33 runs scored and six stolen bases in 58 games in just his second season in the big leagues. Perez should be considered a deep DFS sleeper in his return to the lineup on Monday.Source: MLB.com
Detroit Tigers outfielder Bobby Witt Jr. Back in Monday's Lineup
Bobby Witt Jr. (back) is starting at shortstop and is batting second on Monday against the visiting Washington Nationals and right-hander Cade Cavalli in the series opener. Witt dealt with back stiffness over the weekend and sat out of Sunday's series finale against the Minnesota Twins. The 25-year-old All-Star was up in the air to play on Monday, but he's in there and needs to be in all starting fantasy lineups. He snapped a short hitting streak with a hitless performance on Saturday, and he's hitting .226 (7-for-31) with two home runs, a triple, five RBI and two steals in eight games in the month of August. The former first-rounder can do it all on the diamond and contribute in all fantasy categories. He's currently slashing .284/.340/.493 with an .833 OPS, 17 homers, 65 RBI, 71 runs and 30 steals.Source: MLB.com
Kansas City Royals shortstop Luis Garcia Jr. Starting on Monday
Luis Garcia Jr. (back) is starting at second base and will hit eighth in Monday's series opener against the hosting Kansas City Royals and left-hander Bailey Falter. Garcia will be back in there in KC after he missed the last three contests due to back tightness. The 25-year-old hasn't been as productive this year as he was in 2024, when he hit a career-best .282 with 18 home runs, 70 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 140 games played. In his sixth MLB campaign, he's slashing .263/.302/.399 with only nine homers, 50 RBI, 49 runs and nine stolen bases in 101 games played. In five games so far in August, Garcia has six hits in 21 plate appearances with three RBI and three runs scored. Garcia has faced Falter eight times in his career and is hitting .250.Source: MLB.com
Washington Nationals second baseman Gerrit Cole Starts his Throwing Program
Gerrit Cole (elbow) started his throwing program on Monday with around 20 pitches on flat ground, according to Meredith Marakovits of YES Network. It's a big milestone for Cole, who had reconstructive surgery on his right UCL back in March. The 34-year-old veteran will still miss the entire 2025 season, and it's not guaranteed that he'll be ready for Opening Day in 2026. Cole was dominant with a 2.63 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 222 strikeouts in 33 starts for the Yankees in 2023 as the American League Cy Young winner, but this is his second straight injured season after he made only 17 starts in 2024. He will still be relevant in all fantasy leagues next year as a high-end starter, but it's fair to wonder now whether Cole won't be as dominant as he nears the back nine of his MLB career.Source: Yes Network - Meredith Marakovits
New York Yankees right-hander Reds Have Innings Limit for Chase Burns
Chase Burns on Monday, and while there is no set finalized plan due to moving pieces in the starting rotation, there will be an innings limit for the young hurler. The Reds might have to get creative because the team really wants him to keep pitching without being shut down for the season. Between the majors and minors this year, the hard-throwing 22-year-old has thrown 100 1/3 innings after throwing exactly 100 a year ago in his final collegiate season. It's unclear if Burns will make his next scheduled start on Friday in a tough matchup against the first-place Milwaukee Brewers. At the very least, Burns is in danger of being booted from the rotation after Friday's start with Hunter Greene (groin) and Nick Lodolo (finger) both potentially returning soon.Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Charlie Goldsmith
Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona said the team met with rookie right-hander Billy Cook Hits Injured List With Hand Injury
Billy Cook (hand) was placed on the Triple-A 7-day injured list on Sunday with a hand injury. The Pirates' 21st-ranked prospect was hit in the hand by a pitch on August 3 and hasn't played in a game since then, although the youngster recently indicated that the hand felt fine, so it could be a minimum stay on the IL. The 26-year-old is slashing .248/.323/.384 with eight home runs and 13 stolen bases in 94 games for the Indians. The right-handed hitter has even seen time in the majors last year and this year, going 13-for-55 (.236) with three home runs, eight RBI, six runs scored, and a stolen base in 19 games played. The power and speed are there, but a 27.0 percent career strikeout rate in the minors probably limits his upside.Source: Colin Beazley - Pittsburgh Post Gazette
Pittsburgh Pirates first base/outfield prospect Brendan Donovan Remains Absent on Monday
Brendan Donovan (groin) remains sidelined for Monday's series opener against the visiting Colorado Rockies at Busch Stadium. Thomas Saggese will make another start at second base and will hit seventh against Rockies rookie right-hander Chase Dollander. Left-groin tightness will keep Donovan out of a third straight game, and he could be headed for the injured list if he's unable to return in the next couple of days. Saggese profiles as a low-upside DFS sleeper, even against a rookie pitcher that has struggled so far in his time in the big leagues. Saggese has hit .241 (28-for-116) with only one home run, 10 RBI and nine runs scored in 40 games played this year after making his MLB debut in 2024. The 23-year-old has gone 8-for-30 (.267) with three doubles and three runs in 12 games since the All-Star break.Source: MLB.com
