Matt Chapman Out in Series Finale With Hand Soreness
Matt Chapman (hand) is dealing with soreness on his previously sprained hand and will get the day off on Wednesday to recover in the series finale against the division-rival San Diego Padres at Oracle Park. Casey Schmitt will make the start at third for the Gigantes and will bat third against Padres right-hander Nick Pivetta. Chapman missed over a month with his previous hand injury, so this is something to keep an eye on and could send him back to the injured list if it doesn't improve quickly. It's been a disappointing season offensively for Chapman, as he's hitting just .229/.337/.423 with 16 home runs, 44 RBI, 53 runs and seven steals in 345 at-bats. In the month of August, Chapman has gone just 6-for-37 (.162) with a double, two RBI, four runs scored and 11 strikeouts in 11 games played.
